Paratroopers Drop Into Hell in Bad Robot’s ‘Overlord’ Trailer!
J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot studio and Paramount Pictures airdropped the action-packed Overlord trailer on the internet in a surprise move just ahead of San Diego Comic-Con! A small group of paratroopers uncover a Nazi occult plot to create an army of undead super soldiers, and must fight to put a stop to the nightmare. The trailer is a barrage of blood, bullets, and adrenaline, as AC/DC’s “Hell’s Bells” provides an overture for the insanity.
Here is the plot summary via IMDB:
On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.
This action/horror movie stars Jovan Adepo (Fences, Mother!), Bokeem Woodbine (The Rock, Spider-Man: Homecoming), Wyatt Russell (Black Mirror, 22 Jump Street), Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones, Ghost in the Shell), Iain De Caestecker (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones), Dominic Applewhite (The King’s Speech), Hélène Cardona (Chocolat), and John Magaro (The Big Short). The film is directed by Julius Avery, with the screenplay penned by Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith.
Overlord was originally thought to be the next sneak-attack entry in the Cloverfield universe; however, Abrams provided a recording for CinemaCon earlier this year confirming that is NOT the case. While he stated more Cloverfield films are on the way, Overlord is its own standalone movie.
It’s probably for the best that Bad Robot and Paramount regroup after The Cloverfield Paradox muddled the timeline of the universe, and left fans bewildered. It will be refreshing for Overlord to tell its own story without the baggage of a franchise bogging it down. Nazi zombies is a pretty straight-forward concept, and Cloverfield monsters need not apply.
The film looks to be bringing us back to horror basics with a good, old-fashioned zombie flick, filled with Nazi experiments, undead abominations, and a hell of a lot of fun.
Overlord will invade the big-screen on November 9th, 2018!

Live Action Scooby-Doo Reboot Series In Works at Netflix
The ghosthunting Great Dane with an anxiety problem, Scooby-Doo, is getting a reboot and Netflix is picking up the tab. Variety is reporting that the iconic show is becoming an hour-long series for the streamer although no details have been confirmed. In fact, Netflix execs declined to comment.
If the project is a go, this would be the first live-action movie based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon since 2018’s Daphne & Velma. Before that, there were two theatrical live-action movies, Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004), then two sequels that premiered on The Cartoon Network.
Currently, the adult-oriented Velma is streaming on Max.
Scooby-Doo originated in 1969 under the creative team Hanna-Barbera. The cartoon follows a group of teenagers who investigate supernatural happenings. Known as Mystery Inc., the crew consists of Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Shaggy Rogers, and his best friend, a talking dog named Scooby-Doo.
Normally the episodes revealed the hauntings they encountered were hoaxes developed by land-owners or other nefarious characters hoping to scare people away from their properties. The original TV series named Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! ran from 1969 to 1986. It was so successful that movie stars and pop culture icons would make guest appearances as themselves in the series.
Celebrities such as Sonny & Cher, KISS, Don Knotts, and The Harlem Globetrotters made cameos as did Vincent Price who portrayed Vincent Van Ghoul in a few episodes.
