Boobs, Booze, and Blood! ‘Pool Party Massacre’ is the Perfect Party Horror Movie!

Published

Written by Patti Pauley

Move over Slumber Party, Sorority House, and every other ’80s horror film with “massacre” in the title; Pool Party Massacre is rebooting the classic ’80s tit and gore fest that usually comes along with these sort of titles in the most epic of ways.

Several weeks ago, I became acquainted through the horror community’s interwebs with a goal-oriented, passionate horror fan by the name of Drew Marvick, who also happens to be a fellow local in my hometown of Las Vegas. Marvick pitched me his new movie that has already made its Vegas premiere in early April entitled Pool Party Massacre. A film that the fellow Nevadan, writer and the director calls a fun-time bloodbath that any fan of  1980’s horror will appreciate.

I was pretty much already sold on just Massacre already being in the title. Fantastic.

The plot is fairly simple- a wealthy, entitled girl by the name of Blair invites her fellow bitch brigade over for an elite pool party while her so-snooty-it’s-comical parents are out-of-town. Perfect setup for a slasher film, eh? The Pool Party Butcher, for unknown reasons until the very end, begins a bloody rampage throughout the gathering, offing the guests, and a few standbyers, one by one in unique form as the killer switches weapons for each victim using various hardware tools to getter’ done that results in pools of blood each go around.

We have our crew of under-dressed gals, along with that one outsider who doesn’t quite fit in with the clique, appropriately named Nancy (as we all know very well girls named Nancy in a horror film are usually the level-headed ones- i.e Stranger Things, NOES), who range from ditzy bitch to outright bitch of the year who you’re right away, already clamoring for their deaths. However, as scenes with the crew of girls who channeled their inner Rose McGowans’ from Jawbreaker progressed with interactions with each other, the hurling straightforward insults from one girl to another as they just utterly and unforgivingly riff on each other had me falling off my chair in tears. “The only job you truly qualify for is being a hooker. So get your lips around that rich dick, and hold on tight!”

There’s plenty of those kinds of national treasure type lines throughout this film. I promise.

One of the biggest treats for me in this film, was the comedy relief of Clay played by Nick Byer. Holy shit, this guy is an aspiring Danny McBride as the raunchy jokes just got filthier, funnier, and helped pace the movie along between kills with leaving you pissing your pants laughing. Each time this guy was on-screen, I knew to put my drink down for fear of liquids seeping through thine nostrils.

From the opening 8-bit credits ringing those ’80s nostalgic bells set to some kick-ass metal tunes to the synthesizer score, and the twist at the end I didn’t even see coming, Pool Party Massacre pleasantly surprised me by surpassing all expectations for the movie. It’s an all around fun time horror flick, perfect for a Friday night movie party with friends and booze and if my better half, who can be the BIGGEST horror movie snob of them all found it enjoyable, I think anyone reading this is really going to have a lot of fun in a viewing.

The film stars Kristin Noel McKusick, Margaux Némé, Crystal Stoney, Jenifer Marvick, Destiny Faith Nelson, Alexis Adams, Dora Deceuninck, Paul Card, Nick Byer, Jimmy Grosse, Sally Burnswello, John Molinaro, Mark Justice, Cameron Lee Vamp, and LeeAnna Vamp and is available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray, and even VHS form directly from the movie’s official website by clicking here! Have to say, a movie like this to be released on classic VHS, is so refreshing to see and gives me all the goddamn fuzzies. Well done Drew Marvick. This horror community salutes the hell out of you and this instant cult classic, Pool Party Massacre!

Also note, if you happen to be attending Orlando’s Spooky Empire this weekend, make sure to stop by the Pool Party Massacre booth and swoop up the movie along with some sweet merch!

A24 Reportedly “Pulls Plug” On Peacock’s ‘Crystal Lake’ Series

Published

Crystal

Film studio A24 might not be going forward with its planned Peacock Friday the 13th spinoff called Crystal Lake according to Fridaythe13thfranchise.com. The website quotes entertainment blogger Jeff Sneider who made a statement on his webpage through a subscription paywall.

“I’m hearing that A24 has pulled the plug on Crystal Lake, its planned Peacock series based on the Friday the 13th franchise featuring masked killer Jason Voorhees. Bryan Fuller was due to executive produce the horror series.

It’s unclear whether this is a permanent decision or a temporary one, as A24 had no comment. Perhaps Peacock will help the trades shed more light on this project, which was announced back in 2022.”

Back in January 2023, we reported that some big names were behind this streaming project including Bryan Fuller, Kevin Williamson, and Friday the 13th Part 2 final girl Adrienne King.

Fan Made Crystal Lake Poster

“‘Crystal Lake info from Bryan Fuller! They officially start writing in 2 weeks (writers are here in the audience).” tweeted social media writer Eric Goldman who tweeted the info while attending a Friday the 13th 3D screening event in January 2023. “It will have two scores to choose from – a modern one and a classic Harry Manfredini one. Kevin Williamson is writing an episode. Adrienne King will have a recurring role. Yay! Fuller has pitched four seasons for Crystal Lake. Only one officially ordered so far though he notes Peacock would have to pay a pretty hefty penalty if they didn’t order a Season 2. Asked if he can confirm Pamela’s role in the Crystal Lake series, Fuller replied ‘We’re honestly going to be covering it all. The series is covering the life and times of these two characters’ (presumably he’s referring to Pamela and Jason there!)'”

Whether or not Peacock is moving forward with the project is unclear and since this news is secondhand information, it still has to be verified which will require Peacock and/or A24 to make an official statement which they have yet to do.

But keep checking back to iHorror for the latest updates to this developing story.

New Images for MaXXXine Show A Bloody Kevin Bacon and Mia Goth in all Her Glory

Kevin Bacon in MaXXXine

Ti West (X) has been knocking it out of the park with his sexy horror trilogy as of late. While we still have some time to kill before MaXXXine releases, Entertainment Weekly has dropped some images to wet our appetite while we wait.

It feels like just yesterday X was shocking audiences with its granny horror porno shoot. Now, we are just months ways from Maxxxine shocking the world once again. Fans can check out Maxine’s new 80s inspired adventure in theatres on July 5th, 2024.

MaXXXine

West is known for taking horror in new directions. And it looks as though he plans to do the same with MaXXXine. In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, he had the following to say.

“If you’re expecting it to be part of this X movie and people will be killed, yeah, I’m going to deliver on all those things. But it’s going to zig instead of zag in a lot of places that people aren’t expecting. It’s a very decadent world that she lives in, and it’s a very aggressive world that she lives in, but the threat shows up in an unexpected way.”

MaXXXine

We can also expect MaXXXine to be the biggest movie in the franchise. West isn’t holding anything back for the third installment. “The thing that the other two movies don’t have is that sort of scope. To try to do a big, sprawling Los Angeles ensemble movie is what the movie was, and that’s just a big undertaking. There’s a kind of noir-ish mystery vibe to the movie that’s very fun.”

However, it looks as though MaXXXine will be the end of this saga. Although West has some other ideas for our beloved killer, he believes this will be the end of her story.

That’s all the information we have at this time. Make sure to check back here for more news and updates.

The Tall Man Funko Pop! Is a Reminder of the Late Angus Scrimm

Published

Phantasm tall man Funko pop

The Funko Pop! brand of figurines is finally paying homage to one of the scariest horror movie villains of all time, The Tall Man from Phantasm. According to Bloody Disgusting the toy was previewed by Funko this week.

The creepy otherworldly protagonist was played by the late Angus Scrimm who passed away in 2016. He was a journalist and B-movie actor who became a horror movie icon in 1979 for his role as the mysterious funeral home owner known as The Tall Man. The Pop! also includes the bloodsucking flying silver orb The Tall Man used as a weapon against trespassers.

He also spoke one of the most iconic lines in independent horror, “Boooy! You play a good game, boy, but the game is finished. Now you die!”

There is no word on when this figurine will be released or when preorders will go on sale, but it’s nice to see this horror icon remembered in vinyl.
