MegaCon Brings Tim Curry to Orlando!

Published

on

Brace yourself Floridians, and convention attendees who don’t mind making the trek for a good time to the sunshine state; MegaCon is coming, and this year Tim Curry is headlining!  That’s right, Tim freaking Curry!  It’s not every day this infamous actor comes to a convention, so listen up.

For those of you who may not be familiar with MegaCon Orlando, it is one of the largest conventions in the sunshine state, boasting over 100,000 fans.  That’s a lot of fellow geeks in one area!  This year the event is May 25-28 at the Orange County Convention Center, and you can purchase your tickets here.

As mentioned, main headliner guest this year is none other than the renowned Tim Curry, best known for his performance in Rocky Horror Picture Show and Stephen King’s IT.  Other guests include, but not limited to, James Marsters, Alice Cooper, Stan Lee, and Richard Dean Anderson.  With almost three dozen guests spanning the fandoms of horror, gaming, science fiction, comics and anime, you are sure to find someone of interest.

Celebrating 42 years since the movie was released MegaCon has brought together much of the main cast of the 1975 cult classic, including Barry Bostwick, Patricia Quinn, and Nell Campbell.  Unfortunately Meatloaf had to cancel his appearance last minute, but props to the fan who brings a roast to represent his absence in the photo op.  You know what I’m talking about Rocky Horror fans.

Besides the run of the mill panels, autograph sessions, photo ops, and vendor halls that congoers have come to expect from conventions, MegaCon has so much more to offer!  For instance, Doc’s Interactive Delorean Time Travel Experience!

All of you Back to the Future fans reading this, this is for you! This is your chance to ride passenger in the Delorean with Doc Brown.  Eat your heart out Marty McFly!  Ok, well technically it’s a replica of the classic time machine from the 1985 classic… and it’s not really Christopher Lloyd sitting next to you in the driver’s seat, it’s an actor.  But c’mon, it’s the closest we’re going to get!

You can also ride shotgun with Marty McFly or Biff.  Your experience will be recorded in full 360 degree 4k panoramic glory so you can make your family and friends jealous once you return home, re-living the memories over and over.  Best of all, the proceeds from this experience go to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.  Great Scott!

After the convention doors close Friday and Saturday night you can head over to the after parties!  For a small additional fee, of course.  Friday night is MegaCon’s Inaugural Geeky Tikki Luau.  Whether you’re dressed in your Sunday’s best, casual or in cosplay, come hang out with your fellow fans enjoying drink specials by the pool until 1 a.m. in this 21+ setting!  Saturday night at Con brings the Paradox After Party!  This indoor 18+ party features a DJ, aerialists, dancers, and performers to entertain you as you unwind from your whirlwind of daytime events.

Other events to get your geeky blood flowing include the collection of shadowcasts that will be featured all weekend long.  In addition to the shadow cast classics we know and love including Rocky Horror Picture Show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Once More with Feeling, and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog, Mega Con is also bringing us the shadow casts of Beetlejuice and Clue!

Unlike many geek centered conventions, horror fans are equally honored at MegaCon.  Be sure to check out Friday night’s Fear Film Studio Fest!  From noon to 7 p.m. all of the independent feature films as well as shorts from Fear Films Studio will be screened!  You will also have the opportunity to meet the filmmakers of these projects.

If that’s not enough horror for you, check out the Saints and Sinners Horror Film Festival running all day Saturday and Sunday.  Panels will be showcased along with the films by these independent filmmakers.  While the Saints and Sinners Film Festival has been a staple in Tampa Bay since 2002, this is the first time it has been held at MegaCon!

These are just a taste of the events going on the weekend of MegaCon Orlando.  Be sure to check out their full page of events here!  Some are at an additional price, but many are included with your weekend or daily admission ticket.  Tell us what you are excited to experience later this month in our comments bellow, and if you are going tell us who you will be cosplaying as!  If your paths cross with our iHorror staff you may just get your picture on Twitter!  To see the full website for MegaCon Orlando 2017 click here!

Yay or Nay: What’s Good and Bad in Horror This Week

Published

on

Horror Movies

Welcome to Yay or Nay a weekly mini post about what I think is good and bad news in the horror community written in bite-sized chunks.

Yay:

Mike Flanagan talking about directing the next chapter in the Exorcist trilogy. That might mean he saw the last one and realized there were two left and if he does anything well it’s draw out a story.

Yay:

To the announcement of a new IP-based film Mickey Vs Winnie. It’s fun to read comical hot takes from people who haven’t even seen the movie yet.

Nay:

The new Faces of Death reboot gets an R rating. It’s not really fair — Gen-Z should get an unrated version like past generations so they can question their mortality the same as the rest of us did.

Yay:

Russell Crowe is doing another possession movie. He’s quickly becoming another Nic Cage by saying yes to every script, bringing the magic back to B-movies, and more money into VOD.

Nay:

Putting The Crow back in theaters for its 30th anniversary. Re-releasing classic movies at the cinema to celebrate a milestone is perfectly fine, but doing so when the lead actor in that film was killed on set due to neglect is a cash grab of the worst kind.

The Top-Searched Free Horror/Action Movies on Tubi This Week

Published

on

The free streaming service Tubi is a great place to scroll when you’re unsure what to watch. They are not sponsored or affiliated with iHorror. Still, we really appreciate their library because it’s so robust and has many obscure horror movies so rare you can’t find them anywhere in the wild except, if you’re lucky, in a moist cardboard box at a yard sale. Other than Tubi, where else are you going to find Nightwish (1990), Spookies (1986), or The Power (1984)?

We take a look at the most searched horror titles on the platform this week, hopefully, to save you some time in your endeavor to find something free to watch on Tubi.

Interestingly at the top of the list is one of the most polarizing sequels ever made, the female-led Ghostbusters reboot from 2016. Perhaps viewers have seen the latest sequel Frozen Empire and are curious about this franchise anomaly. They will be happy to know it’s not as bad as some think and is genuinely funny in spots.

So take a look at the list below and tell us if you are interested in any of them this weekend.

Morticia & Wednesday Addams Join Monster High Skullector Series

Published

on

Believe it or not, Mattel’s Monster High doll brand has an immense following with both young and not-so-young collectors.

In that same vein, the fan base for The Addams Family is also very large. Now, the two are collaborating to create a line of collectible dolls that celebrate both worlds and what they have created is a combination of fashion dolls and goth fantasy. Forget Barbie, these ladies know who they are.

The dolls are based on Morticia and Wednesday Addams from the 2019 Addams Family animated movie.

As with any niche collectibles these aren’t cheap they bring with them a $90 price tag, but it’s an investment as a lot of these toys become more valuable over time.

“There goes the neighborhood. Meet the Addams Family’s ghoulishly glamorous mother-daughter duo with a Monster High twist. Inspired by the animated movie and clad in spiderweb lace and skull prints, the Morticia and Wednesday Addams Skullector doll two-pack makes for a gift that’s so macabre, it’s downright pathological.”

If you want to pre-purchase this set check out The Monster High website.
