Columbia, SC – Horse Creek Productions’ feature film Family Possessions, written and directed by Tommy Faircloth and produced by Robert Zobel, will be released on DVD and VOD on Tuesday, February 6th, 2018. 4Digital Media, a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment, acquired the North American rights at the Cannes Film Market and the deal was negotiated by High Octane Pictures.

“Family Possessions” is the fourth feature film from Faircloth and stars Jason Vail (Gut, Dollface, Valley of the Sasquatch), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), and in his first horror film since A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge” Mark Patton.

The story revolves around a young girl named Rachael Dunn, played by Leah Wiseman (Dollface, Dismembering Christmas), who inherits her estranged grandmother’s house. Rachael and her family move into the house and soon after strange occurrences begin to happen. Rachel soon discovers that her family has been hiding a secret about her grandmother as she struggles with the decision to stay in the house. The film is inspired by actual events and was filmed in a historic mansion in Greenville, North Carolina.

Following up on his campy horror parody Dollface which was released by Breaking Glass Pictures in late 2015, Faircloth was ready to tackle a more serious horror film.

Tommy tested a lot of the elements in Family Possessions in the 2013 award-winning short, The Cabin, which was picked up for worldwide cable broadcast by cable channel ShortsTV. “I love the mix of paranormal with psychological horror with elements of 80’s slasher films”, explains Faircloth. “This film explores all those genres and I am really excited for fans of my other films to see it!”

Faircloth cast Felissa Rose as soon as the script was complete. “Felissa and I have so much fun together that casting her was a no-brainer” Faircloth explains. “I like casting people that are easy and fun to work with so besides the fact that she was in my favorite slasher film, she is just a super person and we get along great!”

Also starring in Family Possessions is Mark Patton. Patton is best known as the first “male scream queen”, starring in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge. Mark has also starred on Broadway with Cher and Kathy Bates in Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. He also starred in the feature film version as well with Cher, which was directed by Robert Altman.

“Mark told me after we wrapped that he just felt like he shot the male version of Mean Girls” Tommy says. “Mark’s character will bring some much needed comic relief to the film and I was really happy he agreed to be in the film. I mean, he has not done a horror film since Nightmare 2, so this is a big deal for me” Faircloth finishes.

Providing the special effects make-up and creation of the “villain” in Family Possessions was special effects artist Tony Rosen. Rosen is most famous for creating the Annabelle doll used in the film The Conjuring and Annabelle, but he has worked on countless independent films as well. “There are no digital effects in the film. I definitely wanted to keep it as low-fi as possible as far as the paranormal effects went, but I wanted to make sure the kills and my villain were all practical. This is why I wanted Tony” Tommy says.

Faircloth explains, “I am really excited for people to see this movie. Each time I tackle a project it’s like a game to see what all I can do with as little money and crew as possible. This is my biggest film to date but it still feels like friends getting together to shoot a film for fun, and that feel is important to me. If it’s not fun, then I don’t want to do it. The set atmosphere can’t be toxic. Don’t get me wrong, I may still drive my crew and cast hard and we may have some extra long shooting days, but they are getting paid so I don’t feel so bad. Haha!”

Also starring in Family Possessions is Morgan Monnig, playing Sarah Dunn, who is the wife of Jason Vail’s character. Newcomer Erika Edwards stars as Rachael’s best friend Maggie. Erika also served as on-set photographer providing the photo for what turned out to be an inspiration for the poster. She also captured a lot of behind the scenes footage.

Elizabeth Mears (Dollface) plays, Tristen, a fellow mean girl with Patton’s Tyson character. Michael David Wilson plays the character of Kevin and Andrew Wicklum who appeared in “Dollface” as a young Crinoline Head, plays the younger brother to Rachael, Andy Dunn.

Family Possessions played the film festival circuit for a year during 2016/2017 winning “Best Feature Film” awards at Nightmares Film Festival, Reedy Reels Film Festival, Mad Monster Party, Austin Revolution Film Festival, and Myrtle Beach International Film Festival just to name a few.

“I was really happy with the audience reaction to the film as well as the reviews we got. This film seems to connect with a much larger audience than my previous films and I really hope it does well upon its release” Faircloth explains.

You can pre-order Family Possessions on DVD at Amazon and Walmart now or look for it on the shelves once it hits the street on 2/6/18!

‘Evil Dead’ Film Franchise Getting TWO New Installments

Published

on

It was a risk for Fede Alvarez to reboot Sam Raimi’s horror classic The Evil Dead in 2013, but that risk paid off and so did its spiritual sequel Evil Dead Rise in 2023. Now Deadline is reporting that the series is getting, not one, but two fresh entries.

We already knew about the Sébastien Vaniček upcoming film that delves into the Deadite universe and should be a proper sequel to the latest film, but we are broadsided that Francis Galluppi and Ghost House Pictures are doing a one-off project set in Raimi’s universe based off of an idea that Galluppi pitched to Raimi himself. That concept is being kept under wraps.

Evil Dead Rise

“Francis Galluppi is a storyteller who knows when to keep us waiting in simmering tension and when to hit us with explosive violence,” Raimi told Deadline. “He is a director that shows uncommon control in his feature debut.”

That feature is titled The Last Stop In Yuma County which will release theatrically in the United States on May 4. It follows a traveling salesman, “stranded at a rural Arizona rest stop,” and “is thrust into a dire hostage situation by the arrival of two bank robbers with no qualms about using cruelty-or cold, hard steel-to protect their bloodstained fortune.”

Galluppi is an award-winning sci-fi/horror shorts director whose acclaimed works include High Desert Hell and The Gemini Project. You can view the full edit of High Desert Hell and the teaser for Gemini below:

‘Invisible Man 2’ Is “Closer Than Its Ever Been” to Happening

Published

on

Elisabeth Moss in a very well-thought-out statement said in an interview for Happy Sad Confused that even though there have been some logistical issues for doing Invisible Man 2 there is hope on the horizon.

Podcast host Josh Horowitz asked about the follow-up and if Moss and director Leigh Whannell were any closer to cracking a solution to getting it made. “We are closer than we have ever been to cracking it,” said Moss with a huge grin. You can see her reaction at the 35:52 mark in the below video.

Happy Sad Confused

Whannell is currently in New Zealand filming another monster movie for Universal, Wolf Man, which might be the spark that ignites Universal’s troubled Dark Universe concept which hasn’t gained any momentum since Tom Cruise’s failed attempt at resurrecting The Mummy.

Also, in the podcast video, Moss says she is not in the Wolf Man film so any speculation that it’s a crossover project is left in the air.

Meanwhile, Universal Studios is in the middle of constructing a year-round haunt house in Las Vegas which will showcase some of their classic cinematic monsters. Depending on attendance, this could be the boost the studio needs to get audiences interested in their creature IPs once more and to get more films made based on them.

The Las Vegas project is set to open in 2025, coinciding with their new proper theme park in Orlando called Epic Universe.

Jake gyllenhaal presumed innocent

Jake Gyllenhaal’s limited series Presumed Innocent is dropping on AppleTV+ on June 12 instead of June 14 as originally planned. The star, whose Road House reboot has brought mixed reviews on Amazon Prime, is embracing the small screen for the first time since his appearance on Homicide: Life on the Street in 1994.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s in ‘Presumed Innocent’

Presumed Innocent is being produced by David E. Kelley, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, and Warner Bros. It is an adaptation of Scott Turow’s 1990 film in which Harrison Ford plays a lawyer doing double duty as an investigator looking for the murderer of his colleague.

These types of sexy thrillers were popular in the ’90s and usually contained twist endings. Here’s the trailer for the original:

According to Deadline, Presumed Innocent doesn’t stray far from the source material: “…the Presumed Innocent series will explore obsession, sex, politics and the power and limits of love as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.”

Up next for Gyllenhaal is the Guy Ritchie action movie titled In the Grey scheduled for release in January 2025.

Presumed Innocent is an eight-episode limited series set to stream on AppleTV+ starting June 12.
