31 Scary Story Nights: October 13th “The Blackboard”

Published

on

Ooooo, it’s Friday the 13th in October, and we have a particularly chilling tale for you tonight!  This one is called The Blackboard, and it’s one that’s brand new to me.  I only just discovered it while researching for this project.  It’s based on a Korean Ghost Story, and it’s really quite terrifying.  My hope is that it’ll be new for you too!

Let’s give it a try!

***Writer’s Note:  We here at iHorror are big proponents of responsible parenting.  Some of the stories in this series may be too much for your little ones.  Please read ahead and decide if your kids can handle this story!  If not, find another story for tonight or simply come back to see us tomorrow.  In other words, don’t blame me for your kids nightmares!***

The Blackboard as retold by Waylon Jordan

There once was a teacher who had a reputation for being particularly strict and cruel in his punishments.  He would often force his students to stay after class to study in the library long into the evening when they misbehaved.

In order to ensure that they stayed, each student was given the teacher’s cell phone number and were assigned a number with which to check in.  There were 30 students in his class and when they were punished they had to call him at specific times to let him know they were still studying.

Some teachers would have worried that they were simply calling from home or while hanging out with friends, but this teacher’s reputation was so tough not a single student dared try to trick him.

Almost every night he would receive phone calls and he answered with no small amount of sadistic glee.

One evening, as he sat at home waiting for the inevitable phone call, his phone rang with a simple Unknown Caller on the Caller ID.  He answered immediately.

“Hello, Teacher…this is number 31.”

Before he could tell the caller he had no student 31, the girl hung up the phone.  He sat there staring at the phone unsure of what had just happened.  He knew he had no student 31, and the thought that one of his students might be prank calling him made him furious.

He stormed into his classroom the next day determined to root out the prank caller but though he threatened them all, no student came forward to admit to making the phone call.  Even the threat of beating each of the students did no good!

He gave them all detention and went home with no sense of accomplishment, settling in to a night of answering the phone as each of his students called to report they were still working.  It was almost 9 pm when his phone rang with Unknown Caller and he furiously answered.

“Hello, teacher.  This is number 31,” the timid female voice spoke.

“Who is this?” He demanded of the voice, but the line went dead once again.

The teacher spent another day threatening students to no avail, and even going so far as to threaten students who weren’t even in his class, but no matter what he said, no one would come forward.

Defeated, he returned home that evening and did not even flinch when the phone rang with Unknown Caller again.  No matter what he did, the calls continued to come in each night.  The same timid voice, the same insistence that she was student number 31.

One night, when he asked who was calling yet again and insisted again that he had only 30 students in his class, she finally responded.

“I watch your class everyday, teacher, but you always turn your back to me.  I wish I could see your face.”

The teacher was almost heartbroken by that voice, and the next day he changed.  He was nice to his class, and stopped his cruel punishments.  Still, the phone calls continued even after he changed his phone number.

He soon decided to take a medical leave as the strain became too much.  Medical leave turned into permanent retirement.

Several years later, the school was remodeling, and when they tore the blackboard from the teacher’s classroom, they found the skeleton of young girl hidden there…

Well, I don’t know about you, but that creeped me out completely!  Thank you for joining us for another scary story night!  Don’t forget to join us again tomorrow for another terrifying tale!

Yay or Nay: What’s Good and Bad in Horror This Week

Published

on

Horror Movies

Welcome to Yay or Nay a weekly mini post about what I think is good and bad news in the horror community written in bite-sized chunks.

Yay:

Mike Flanagan talking about directing the next chapter in the Exorcist trilogy. That might mean he saw the last one and realized there were two left and if he does anything well it’s draw out a story.

Yay:

To the announcement of a new IP-based film Mickey Vs Winnie. It’s fun to read comical hot takes from people who haven’t even seen the movie yet.

Nay:

The new Faces of Death reboot gets an R rating. It’s not really fair — Gen-Z should get an unrated version like past generations so they can question their mortality the same as the rest of us did.

Yay:

Russell Crowe is doing another possession movie. He’s quickly becoming another Nic Cage by saying yes to every script, bringing the magic back to B-movies, and more money into VOD.

Nay:

Putting The Crow back in theaters for its 30th anniversary. Re-releasing classic movies at the cinema to celebrate a milestone is perfectly fine, but doing so when the lead actor in that film was killed on set due to neglect is a cash grab of the worst kind.

The Top-Searched Free Horror/Action Movies on Tubi This Week

Published

on

The free streaming service Tubi is a great place to scroll when you’re unsure what to watch. They are not sponsored or affiliated with iHorror. Still, we really appreciate their library because it’s so robust and has many obscure horror movies so rare you can’t find them anywhere in the wild except, if you’re lucky, in a moist cardboard box at a yard sale. Other than Tubi, where else are you going to find Nightwish (1990), Spookies (1986), or The Power (1984)?

We take a look at the most searched horror titles on the platform this week, hopefully, to save you some time in your endeavor to find something free to watch on Tubi.

Interestingly at the top of the list is one of the most polarizing sequels ever made, the female-led Ghostbusters reboot from 2016. Perhaps viewers have seen the latest sequel Frozen Empire and are curious about this franchise anomaly. They will be happy to know it’s not as bad as some think and is genuinely funny in spots.

So take a look at the list below and tell us if you are interested in any of them this weekend.

Morticia & Wednesday Addams Join Monster High Skullector Series

Published

on

Believe it or not, Mattel’s Monster High doll brand has an immense following with both young and not-so-young collectors.

In that same vein, the fan base for The Addams Family is also very large. Now, the two are collaborating to create a line of collectible dolls that celebrate both worlds and what they have created is a combination of fashion dolls and goth fantasy. Forget Barbie, these ladies know who they are.

The dolls are based on Morticia and Wednesday Addams from the 2019 Addams Family animated movie.

As with any niche collectibles these aren’t cheap they bring with them a $90 price tag, but it’s an investment as a lot of these toys become more valuable over time.

“There goes the neighborhood. Meet the Addams Family’s ghoulishly glamorous mother-daughter duo with a Monster High twist. Inspired by the animated movie and clad in spiderweb lace and skull prints, the Morticia and Wednesday Addams Skullector doll two-pack makes for a gift that’s so macabre, it’s downright pathological.”

If you want to pre-purchase this set check out The Monster High website.
