They’re Coming for You, Barbara: Horror Subscription Boxes that Deliver the Goods

Published

on

If you’re like me, you may have a… bit of a problem… with online shopping. It’s just satisfying. You don’t have to worry about schlepping through a mall to find what you want, and there’s something magical about getting a package in the mail. It’s like a present to yourself! Subscription boxes are perfect for giving you that waiting-by-the-mailbox excitement, but there’s an added bonus. Each box is a complete surprise!

These boxes are lovingly built by a like-minded horror fan, so even though you don’t know what’s coming, you’re rarely disappointed. If you’re curious about the world of subscription boxes but don’t know where to start, have no fear. I have used my online shopping prowess to find some of the coolest horror-themed subscription boxes the internet has to offer.

HorrorPack

HorrorPack is like your best friend who constantly shows up at your door with new movies to absorb. They deliver a selection of 4 horror DVDs or Blu-Rays once a month. The DVD plans start at $19.99 with the Blu-Ray version starting at $24.99. Of course, they offer lower price points for longer subscriptions. Their Instagram page is full of hints for the next month’s pack, so you can try and fit the puzzle pieces together to know what you’re in for.

Glamour Ghoul

The Glamour Ghoul box is what you would get if Morticia Addams and Vampira teamed up to personally curate a subscription box. It’s stocked with cruelty free indie makeup and handmade products from Etsy sellers, so you can feel guilt-free in knowing that your money is going to independently owned companies. The boxes contain the aforementioned makeup along with “bath goods, nail polish, horror/gothic home goods, candles, jewelry, and other miscellaneous goodies“. A subscription costs $30 (plus shipping), but they also offer a $20 “random grab box” for those who aren’t quite ready to commit.

Horror Block

Horror Block is what you get when you want to obtain all the goods from a horror convention, but without the travel time. They deliver a horror t-shirt, horror toys, collectibles and apparel, and a copy of Rue Morgue magazine. It’s part of the Nerd Block family and, in my personal experience, it’s worth the price tag. Subscriptions start at $19.99 per month (which, again, decreases by the contract length).

Box of Dread

Like Horror Block, the Box of Dread is a home-delivered collection of collectibles and goodies. The one month plan starts at $20. Each box includes “Handpicked, awesome horror-related collectibles as well as promotional products from horror movies, TV shows and games. Items to be included in various boxes range from shirts to stickers to action figures and movie memorabilia.”

Boxy Chan – Horror Edition

Each box may include “a combination of toys, shirts, plushies, movies, games, dolls, candy, figures, books, comics, and more”. Boxes are $25/month, which buys you a single box or you can sign up for a monthly subscription.

Hunt a Killer

The Hunt a Killer box is really freaking cool and totally different from every other subscription box you’ve seen. If you fancy yourself a true crime buff and you think you’d be a top-notch detective, here’s your chance to test your skills.

“Hunt A Killer is a monthly membership that spins dark tales for you to untangle. You will enter the mind of a serial killer complete with clues, codes, and ciphers. Each month you will receive items to aid your investigation: correspondence to interpret, objects to explore, and messages to analyze. Nothing is as it seems. Like a detective, you must look closely at all the evidence and think outside the box. We dare you to develop an intimate relationship with our Killer. He might send you a captivating article, a meaningful photograph, or a trinket of curiosity. It’s your job to make sense of it all.”

It’s always nice to see a reunion in the world of horror. Following a competitive bidding war, A24 has secured the rights to the new action thriller film Onslaught. Adam Wingard (Godzilla vs. Kong) will be directing the film. He will be joined by his longtime creative partner Simon Barret (You’re Next) as the scriptwriter.

For those unaware, Wingard and Barret made a name for themselves while working together on films such as You’re Next and The Guest. The two creatives are card carrying horror royalty. The pair have worked on films such as V/H/S, Blair Witch, The ABC’s of Death, and A Horrible Way to Die.

An exclusive article of out Deadline gives us the limited information we have on the topic. Although we don’t have much to go on, Deadline does offer the following information.

A24

“Plot details are being kept under wraps but the film is in the vein of Wingard and Barrett’s cult classics like The Guest and You’re Next. Lyrical Media and A24 will co-finance. A24 will handle worldwide releasing. Principal photography will begin in Fall 2024.”

A24 will be producing the film alongside Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett for Ryder Picture Company, Alexander Black for Lyrical Media, Wingard and Jeremy Platt for Breakaway Civilization, and Simon Barret.

Director Louis Leterrier Creating New Sci-Fi Horror Film “11817”

Published

on

Louis Leterrier

According to an article from Deadline, Louis Leterrier (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) is about to shake things up with his new Sci-Fi horror film 11817. Leterrier is set to produce and direct the new Movie. 11817 is penned by the glorious Mathew Robinson (The Invention of Lying).

Rocket Science will be taking the film to Cannes in search of a buyer. While we don’t know much about what the film looks like, Deadline offers the following plot synopsis.

“The film watches as inexplicable forces trap a family of four inside their house indefinitely. As both modern luxuries and life or death essentials begin to run out, the family must learn how to be resourceful to survive and outsmart who — or what — is keeping them trapped…”

“Directing projects where the audience gets behind the characters has always been my focus. However complex, flawed, heroic, we identify with them as we live through their journey,” said Leterrier. “It’s what excites me about 11817‘s wholly original concept and the family at the heart of our story. This is an experience that movie audiences won’t forget.”

Leterrier has made a name for himself in the past for working on beloved franchises. His portfolio includes gems such as Now You See Me, The Incredible Hulk, Clash of The Titans, and The Transporter. He is currently attached to create the final Fast and the Furious film. However, it will be interesting to see what Leterrier can do working with some darker subject material.

That’s all the information we have for you at this time. As always, make sure to check back here for more news and updates.
