Check Out Adam Green’s Cabin Fever 2 On Friday Night!
I’ve long been fascinated with Cabin Fever ever since seeing a feature about it in Fangoria ahead of its wide release back in 2003. I saw it on opening night and immediately became a huge fan of the movie and of Eli Roth. Little has changed about that in the thirteen years since.
A couple years after the emergence of Roth and the release of Cabin Fever, another fascinating director came out of the shadows with a cool little flick called The Roost. His name was Ti West, and has since become just as big a name in the horror genre as Roth. It was clear from The Roost that West had a similar affection for the genre as Roth demonstrated with Cabin Fever, and I was incredibly excited to learn that he would helm the sequel to Roth’s debut. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, and while West shot the movie, things fell apart in post-production and West eventually tried to distance himself from the film, not being happy with the work others did to finish it up as he was off on other projects. The story is well documented at this point. Here’s a post from a couple years ago discussing it after West opened up about the experience on the Bret Easton Ellis podcast.
I’ve always been intrigued with the story of Cabin Fever 2. While in the end, I think it turned out to be a reasonably entertaining follow-up (certainly when compared to the subsequent films in the franchise), one has to wonder how much better it would have been had it come out the way West intended.
There’s a whole other part to the Cabin Fever 2 mythology, however, and it involves filmmaker/podcaster Adam Green. Green was at one point attached to the project (prior to West’s involvement) as well. He even wrote a script for a sequel to Roth’s movie before having his own fiasco. You can learn more about both his and West’s experiences with the troubled sequel in an old episode of The Movie Crypt in which West and Green discuss it.
So why am I bringing this up now? Because soon, you’ll have a chance to hear a live read-through of Green’s version. As you may or may not have heard, The Movie Crypt is doing a three-day live broadcast this coming weekend to benefit Save a Yorkie Rescue, Inc. On Monday’s episode of the podcast, Green revealed the coming Cabin Fever 2 read, which he says will probably take place “very late” on Friday night.
The whole three-day marathon lasts from Friday night, August 5 at 7pm Pacific through Sunday, August 7 at 7pm Pacific. They’ll also be reading through a new episode of Holliston at some point as well as the original script for The Goonies. Times haven’t been revealed (you’re supposed to just tune in). You’ll be able to find the broadcast at GeekNation.com.

Live Action Scooby-Doo Reboot Series In Works at Netflix
The ghosthunting Great Dane with an anxiety problem, Scooby-Doo, is getting a reboot and Netflix is picking up the tab. Variety is reporting that the iconic show is becoming an hour-long series for the streamer although no details have been confirmed. In fact, Netflix execs declined to comment.
If the project is a go, this would be the first live-action movie based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon since 2018’s Daphne & Velma. Before that, there were two theatrical live-action movies, Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004), then two sequels that premiered on The Cartoon Network.
Currently, the adult-oriented Velma is streaming on Max.
Scooby-Doo originated in 1969 under the creative team Hanna-Barbera. The cartoon follows a group of teenagers who investigate supernatural happenings. Known as Mystery Inc., the crew consists of Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Shaggy Rogers, and his best friend, a talking dog named Scooby-Doo.
Normally the episodes revealed the hauntings they encountered were hoaxes developed by land-owners or other nefarious characters hoping to scare people away from their properties. The original TV series named Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! ran from 1969 to 1986. It was so successful that movie stars and pop culture icons would make guest appearances as themselves in the series.
Celebrities such as Sonny & Cher, KISS, Don Knotts, and The Harlem Globetrotters made cameos as did Vincent Price who portrayed Vincent Van Ghoul in a few episodes.
