Ghostbusters Reboot Plot Details Revealed; Slimer Returning?!

Published

on

Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters reboot has been a hot topic of discussion in the film community this year, and now that the cameras have started rolling, more details about the film are being revealed. In fact, we’ve got your first official plot synopsis today, so read on!

The Boston Herald reports that though Feig’s reboot is set in Manhattan, like the original, it’s actually filming in Boston. As we already knew, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones will be playing the new Ghostbusters, and the outlet offers character details that reveal the basic plot.

According to our script spies, Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real,” writes the site. “Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.

Ghostbusters reboot

Most exciting of all, the Herald has it on pretty good authority that iconic villain Slimer will be returning in this brand new take on Ghostbusters, and cameos from original stars Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray are still a possibility – despite the fact that Murray seems to be ignoring the project completely.

As for Aykroyd, he’s been fairly vocal about the reboot these last few months, and in a recent interview with Coming Soon, he had some very enthusiastic words to say about it.

It’s going to be hot!” says Aykroyd. “The new one’s going to be big! The interplay, and with each of them, their individual voices are so well defined. They’re just such different characters, and there’s a friction. There’s a dynamic there. I’m not going to spoil it for people, but it’s going to be big, big! …This is all going to introduce [the franchise] to a whole new generation of girls that are going to want to be Ghostbusters. We always needed them.”

Original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman will produce the reboot, while Feig is directing from a script he wrote with Katie Dippold. Chris Hemsworth will play the new crew’s hunky male receptionist.

Ghostbusters is set for release on July 22nd, 2016.

Radio Silence No Longer Attached to ‘Escape From New York’

Published

on

Radio Silence has certainly had its ups and downs over the past year. First, they said they wouldn’t be directing another sequel to Scream, but their movie Abigail became a box office hit among critics and fans. Now, according to Comicbook.com, they won’t be pursuing the Escape From New York reboot that was announced late last year.

Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin are the duo behind the directing/production team. They talked with Comicbook.com and when questioned about Escape From New York project, Gillett gave this answer:

“We are not, unfortunately. I think titles like that bounce around for a while and I think they’ve tried to get that out of the blocks a few times. I think it’s just ultimately a tricky rights issue thing. There’s a clock on it and we just weren’t in a position to make the clock, ultimately. But who knows? I think, in hindsight, it feels crazy that we would think we would, post-Scream, step into a John Carpenter franchise. You never know. There’s still interest in it and we’ve had a few conversations about it but we’re not attached in any official capacity.”

Radio Silence has yet to announce any of its upcoming projects.

Shelter in Place, New ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ Trailer Drops

Published

on

The third installment of the A Quiet Place franchise is set to release only in theaters on June 28. Even though this one is minus John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, it still looks terrifyingly magnificent.

This entry is said to be a spin-off and not a sequel to the series, although it’s technically more a prequel. The wonderful Lupita Nyong’o takes center stage in this movie, along with Joseph Quinn as they navigate through New York City under siege by bloodthirsty aliens.

The official synopsis, as if we need one, is “Experience the day the world went quiet.” This, of course, refers to the quick-moving aliens who are blind but have an enhanced sense of hearing.

Under the direction of Michael Sarnoski (Pig) this apocalyptic suspense thriller will be released the same day as the first chapter in Kevin Costner’s three-part epic western Horizon: An American Saga.

Which one will you see first?
