The Best Horror Movies on UK Netflix

Published

on

I am sooooooo sick of reading ‘Best of Netflix’ articles and being halfway into the results before realizing that none of them are on the UK version of the steaming service. Well, just because of this I am now the iHorror.com UK Netflix reporter and to start you off, here is a ‘best of Netflix’ list for the Brits!

Come back regularly and see my weekly post on new arrivals to the Netflix library.

In no particular order:

Zombieland
Slapstick gory horror is always a winner in my book. Woody Harrelson has mastered the art of zombie killing and Bill Murray had mastered the art of pretending to be a zombie. If you haven’t seen it yet, sort your life out!
[youtube id=”8m9EVP8X7N8″ align=”center”]

Would You Rather
Excellent story line on a modest budget and some fantastic actors bring this little gem together. Based on a sadistic version of the teen game ‘Would you rather?’ this one will keep you on the edge of your seat from 15 minutes in.[youtube id=”it5XICr93wU” align=”center”]

Saw 3, 4, 5, 6
You can’t beat a bit or over the top torture porn. Although I do hate it when Netflix doesn’t provide the full saga. No introduction here apart from if you haven’t seen any of the Saw movies, they aren’t for the faint of heart.[youtube id=”zeJ9v8jjFEE” align=”center”][youtube id=”cn170AzHjio” align=”center”][youtube id=”00cHLr90SgA” align=”center”][youtube id=”MW8BaH-w7-4″ align=”center”]

Insidious Chapter 2
If you are after a scare this is the one for you. I don’t know anyone who wasn’t sitting behind a pillow that didn’t enjoy it. Best to watch the first one first, as it is all about time and dimension travel and you will spoil a pretty good story line if you skip it.[youtube id=”fBbi4NeebAk” align=”center”]

Hostel 2, 3
Oh look, Netflix is at it again, only providing the second and third installment of these awesome movies. Hopefully you have already seen the first however and are ready for Eli Roth’s twisted sequels. Again, these are for the veterans of horror. [youtube id=”5W0eN9OyzHM” align=”center”][youtube id=”SWbYw1fuzZg” align=”center”]

House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects
These just had to be in there. House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects are brutal, bloodthirsty horrors from the quill of Rob Zombie. Watch ‘House’ first and then ‘Rejects’ second.[youtube id=”c96DM_5AHbg” align=”center”][youtube id=”apZ_F8aDFmc” align=”center”]

The Mist
Even with this movie appearing in lists of films with the worst endings of all time, I would say it is still vastly entertaining and definitely worth watching. Monsters, aliens or something, appear in a mist that takes over the country. Nuff said![youtube id=”E-NF55EZ5tw” align=”center”]

Tucker and Dale Vs Evil
This is one of my must favorite black comedies of all time. Plenty of bloodshed, strangely made comical by two misunderstood hillbillies trying to just be good people.[youtube id=”j0hJSCqqIs4″ align=”center”]

Cube
Classic horror with an intriguing story. Several people wake up to find themselves in a giant cube with multiple rooms filled with traps. Don’t wait…watch this movie![youtube id=”MY5PkidV1cM” align=”center”]

The Midnight Meat Train
A struggling photographer goes to the crime ridden areas of the city to find a cutting edge image to display for real life art. However when he notices the rather strange man and decides to follow him, he gets more than he ever bargained for. A fairly unknown Bradley Cooper and Vinnie Jones star in this dark movie.[youtube id=”nPazfR_DyAo” align=”center”]

The Crazies (2010)
Remake of a classic movie that, for a change, was done quite well. Bit of a zombie style movie where a sheriff strives to save his wife and escape the authority’s brutal quarantine.[youtube id=”J7w9uWFIMBs” align=”center”]

The Amityville Horror
Ryan Reynolds stepping into horror for a brief period to make this awesome rendition of the well-known classic.[youtube id=”c5Maq9H1lZ8″ align=”center”]

Event Horizon
Sci-Fi action horror with some shit your pants scary scenes that could only work with Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neill in them. Definitely should be on your list if you like a scare.[youtube id=”OVlnER8SxfQ” align=”center”]

The Night of the Living Dead
Any self-respecting zombie fan would already know this icon. Re-mastered in color this horror movie was one of the first to show the struggle to survive in normal surroundings which I think makes it more realistic. There is no shopping mall or barricaded prison, just a house on a farm with the constant reminder that we are not much better than the undead.[youtube id=”r0r7L8tS2L0″ align=”center”]

The Ninth Gate
Johnny Depp returned to horror for this supernatural fantasy. A long movie but plenty to keep you on the edge of your seat.[youtube id=”9T5mhtHf8T4″ align=”center”]

Splinter
A great concept for a sticky substance that when touched will engulf and mutate your body leaving a splinter like form. Trapped in a gas station the sticky stuff takes them one at a time.[youtube id=”aJndd5Eyz18″ align=”center”]

From Dusk till Dawn
George Clooney, yes you heard me, and Quentin Tarantino in a movie that blew us away. Come back George, you belong with us and not in the rom-com rubbish! Vampire movies at their best.[youtube id=”-bBay_1dKK8″ align=”center”]

Planet Terror and Death Proof
A collaboration of Tarantino and George A. Romero, two grindhouse movies for the price of one. Not sequels but in the same world as each story line.  ‘Terror’ is a mutant zombie breakout and ‘Proof’ is a serial killer actionsmovie. Who movie do you prefer? Let iHorror.com know in the comments.[youtube id=”naH0Htsz1q8″ align=”center”][youtube id=”7mICGcg5-pM” align=”center”]

The Omen (1976)
Well it isn’t often we see movie royalty on Netflix but when we do it would be wrong to scroll past, even if you have seen it over fifty times.[youtube id=”V7CEbd7ffNw” align=”center”]

Stitches
This is a fun little number for the comedy and clown fans to squeak their noses too. British Comedian Ross Nobel stars as a birthday party entertainer that falls victim to a vicious prank and dies in a horrible way. Returning from the dead several years later to seek revenge on those own took his life. Don’t take this movie too seriously, it is fun and gory in a brilliant way.[youtube id=”tGk38QjM5zQ” align=”center”]

An American Werewolf in London
I remember reading that people fainted in the theater watching the transformation scene in this movie. One of the only werewolf films done right over the years.[youtube id=”3uw6QPThCqE” align=”center”]

Doom
Similar to the first Resident Evil story line this is a fun action horror staring Dwayne Johnson and was the first to try out the very cool first person shooter style filming. Made after the famous video game Doom.[youtube id=”LljkKoPs1Gg” align=”center”]

Scream
Start studded cast of people to watched getting chopped up by a guy in a ghost mask. We all know the one… classic Valentine’s night movie.[youtube id=”AWm_mkbdpCA ” align=”center”]

Stigmata
You can probably tell what this movie is about from the title. Excellently done, this movie followsa  young lady as she finds herself with the symptoms of Stigmata. This apparently actually happens in the world![youtube id=”sIz7Tv4Zzxk” align=”center”]

Fright Night (1985)
Another 80’s black comedy but in the vampire genre this time where a teen discovers the prince of darkness himself lives next door.[youtube id=”1ISgM9sjza8″ align=”center”]

The Blair Witch Project
The original found footage movie at its best here. I loved this movie for its originality and proof that you do not need to use blood and guts to scare the hell out of people.[youtube id=”a_Hw4bAUj8A” align=”center”]

Child’s Play Child’s Play 2 and Child’s Play 3
Some of my favorite movies of all time, Wow Netflix has all three, well before they started to get dumb!  “Hi my name’s Chucky, and I’ll be your friend to the end.”[youtube id=”B2ienmZuReo” align=”center”][youtube id=”7D5T4_KajSU” align=”center”][youtube id=”s9GNZdjMCAM” align=”center”]

The ABCs of Death
Interesting little number of short movies here by 26 different directors from around the world all using a letter for the alphabet as a theme their story. A bit odd but great![youtube id=”rIHmP9XO4KA” align=”center”]

Re-Animator
Can’t beat this one and I should probably say it is for horror fans really. Cult classic staring Jeffery Combs that has been referenced thousands of times in horror movies.[youtube id=”6NOcRIHiRtc” align=”center”]

The Craft
My wife insisted on putting this one in. Probably one good for valentine’s day as it is not hide behind the pillow scary but has a great story line about four young witches.[youtube id=”DoM4OXQVCcE” align=”center”]

Killer Klowns from Outer Space
This film is nuts but I just love it! It is wacky as hell and not very well done but it was one of the first to get me into horror as a kid and it is in this list as a sign of respect.[youtube id=”PrFl800iYWI” align=”center”]

Friday the 13th Part 4
In my view this was the best of all the Jason movies and if you haven’t seen any of them, firstly shame on you and secondly just watch this one. It might lead your interest enough to watch them all.[youtube id=”zBme5lOcZF4″ align=”center”]

Vampire in Brooklyn
Eddie Murphy dabbles in the horror genre as the prince of darkness biting his was through Brooklyn. Funny as hell… watch it![youtube id=”2qzFuLGeVGI” align=”center”]

Jack Brooks Monster Slayer
Robert Englund co-stars in this movie as a young man with anger issues finds a way to channel his energy in to slaying monsters. Practical effects lovers will appreciate this movie![youtube id=”ejwdhipRQJU” align=”center”]

‘Evil Dead’ Film Franchise Getting TWO New Installments

Published

on

It was a risk for Fede Alvarez to reboot Sam Raimi’s horror classic The Evil Dead in 2013, but that risk paid off and so did its spiritual sequel Evil Dead Rise in 2023. Now Deadline is reporting that the series is getting, not one, but two fresh entries.

We already knew about the Sébastien Vaniček upcoming film that delves into the Deadite universe and should be a proper sequel to the latest film, but we are broadsided that Francis Galluppi and Ghost House Pictures are doing a one-off project set in Raimi’s universe based off of an idea that Galluppi pitched to Raimi himself. That concept is being kept under wraps.

Evil Dead Rise

“Francis Galluppi is a storyteller who knows when to keep us waiting in simmering tension and when to hit us with explosive violence,” Raimi told Deadline. “He is a director that shows uncommon control in his feature debut.”

That feature is titled The Last Stop In Yuma County which will release theatrically in the United States on May 4. It follows a traveling salesman, “stranded at a rural Arizona rest stop,” and “is thrust into a dire hostage situation by the arrival of two bank robbers with no qualms about using cruelty-or cold, hard steel-to protect their bloodstained fortune.”

Galluppi is an award-winning sci-fi/horror shorts director whose acclaimed works include High Desert Hell and The Gemini Project. You can view the full edit of High Desert Hell and the teaser for Gemini below:

‘Invisible Man 2’ Is “Closer Than Its Ever Been” to Happening

Published

on

Elisabeth Moss in a very well-thought-out statement said in an interview for Happy Sad Confused that even though there have been some logistical issues for doing Invisible Man 2 there is hope on the horizon.

Podcast host Josh Horowitz asked about the follow-up and if Moss and director Leigh Whannell were any closer to cracking a solution to getting it made. “We are closer than we have ever been to cracking it,” said Moss with a huge grin. You can see her reaction at the 35:52 mark in the below video.

Happy Sad Confused

Whannell is currently in New Zealand filming another monster movie for Universal, Wolf Man, which might be the spark that ignites Universal’s troubled Dark Universe concept which hasn’t gained any momentum since Tom Cruise’s failed attempt at resurrecting The Mummy.

Also, in the podcast video, Moss says she is not in the Wolf Man film so any speculation that it’s a crossover project is left in the air.

Meanwhile, Universal Studios is in the middle of constructing a year-round haunt house in Las Vegas which will showcase some of their classic cinematic monsters. Depending on attendance, this could be the boost the studio needs to get audiences interested in their creature IPs once more and to get more films made based on them.

The Las Vegas project is set to open in 2025, coinciding with their new proper theme park in Orlando called Epic Universe.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s Thriller ‘Presumed Innocent’ Series Gets Early Release Date

Published

on

Jake gyllenhaal presumed innocent

Jake Gyllenhaal’s limited series Presumed Innocent is dropping on AppleTV+ on June 12 instead of June 14 as originally planned. The star, whose Road House reboot has brought mixed reviews on Amazon Prime, is embracing the small screen for the first time since his appearance on Homicide: Life on the Street in 1994.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s in ‘Presumed Innocent’

Presumed Innocent is being produced by David E. Kelley, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, and Warner Bros. It is an adaptation of Scott Turow’s 1990 film in which Harrison Ford plays a lawyer doing double duty as an investigator looking for the murderer of his colleague.

These types of sexy thrillers were popular in the ’90s and usually contained twist endings. Here’s the trailer for the original:

According to Deadline, Presumed Innocent doesn’t stray far from the source material: “…the Presumed Innocent series will explore obsession, sex, politics and the power and limits of love as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.”

Up next for Gyllenhaal is the Guy Ritchie action movie titled In the Grey scheduled for release in January 2025.

Presumed Innocent is an eight-episode limited series set to stream on AppleTV+ starting June 12.
