The Best Romances From The Friday the 13th Franchise

Published

on

Well, Friday is Friday the 13th and Saturday is Valentine’s Day, so I thought it might be fun to look at some of the wonderful couples from throughout the Friday the 13th franchise. There are so many great ones, as well as more casual hook-ups and unrequited loves, but I’ve narrowed it down to ten of my favorite couples.

Honorable mention to Scott and Muffin of Part 2.

Note: If you’re not a person who watches these movies much, you’ll probably just want to move on.

10. Deborah and Luke (Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday)

Deborah and Luke were so in love that even after Luke “shrank his pod,”  Deb couldn’t get him in the sack fast enough. She also did not give much of a fuck about how much Luke hated condoms and was happy to let him in bareback presumably without birth control. No worries. Jason (in the form of an African American medical examiner) murdered them both in one of the most graphic scenes in the entire franchise before Luke’s seed could be planted.

9. Edna and Harold (Friday the 13th Part 3)

Edna, Harold

Edna and Harold had something few others in the Friday the 13th franchise did. They were married presumably for many years and owned a nice country store together. Sure, they had their issues. Harold was always eating the inventory and having animals around the produce, but I get the impression these two really had true love for one another. Until they were murdered by a mentally handicapped rapist cannibal.

8. Vickie and Mark (Friday the 13th Part 2)

Vickie, Mark

Sure, Vickie and Mark had not known each other for very long before they each met their demise, but in their short time together, they really hit it off. Had they not been butchered by a man in a sack, I feel like their future would have been quite bright. I mean it was pretty clear when Vickie changed into her sexy brown panties that Mark was the one, and that his disability would be absolutely no issue whatsoever.

7. Jake and Robin (Friday the 13th: A New Beginning)

Jake and Robin

Unfortunately, Jake and Robin were really only a couple in Jake’s mind. Regardless of how romantic a setting they were in (watching an old movie on the couch of a halfway house), Robin just wasn’t interested when Jake announced that he really wanted to make love to her. In fact, she flat out laughed in his face, so naturally he went to see what Violet was up to. While all three would inevitably be murdered by a disgruntled paramedic, it’s clear that Robin regretted how she reacted to Jake’s advance, and I like to think the two would have ended up together. How anyone could resist Jake’s charm is beyond me.

6. Cort and Nikki (Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI)

cort-nikki

Cort and Nikki clearly had a strong and healthy relationship. While making beautiful, romantic love, Nikki insisted that Cort not ejaculate until her favorite song was over. Unfortunately Cort blew it, thinking that the song actually was over (Or so he said. Would Cort lie?). But the romance didn’t stop there. Though Nikki was actually being murdered by a large zombie in the bathroom, Cort was under the impression she was going number 2, and expressed his interest in “snatching a peek or vice versa”. All while jamming to Alice Cooper’s Teenage Frankenstein, of course. Ultimately no peek was ever able to be snatched. Nor was any snatch ever able to be peeked at.

5. Tommy and Megan (Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI)

tommy-megan

In The Final Chapter, Tommy Jarvis was just your average kid bursting with excitement at the first time he got to see naked girls. This excitement was very clear from the way he jumped around on his bed while peeping at the young lovers next door before his mom came in and ruined his night, not to mention the enthusiasm he shared with his sister over that “pack of patootsies” he saw at the lake.

After Jason Voorhees ruined his life, he didn’t seem all that interested in relationships until many years later when he would meet the sheriff’s daughter Megan. They had quite a wild first date, to say the least, which not only included hunting down a big, murderous zombie, but also a high speed car chase with some “hairy” turns. Unfortunately, this is the last time we met Tommy or Megan, so I’m going to assume they went on to live a beautiful, Jason-free life together as the big guy turned his attention to bigger foes like a telekinetic girl, Freddy Krueger, etc. Something tells me Tommy still suffers from PTSD though.

4. Robbie and Axel (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter)

robbie-axel

Axel was clearly a stand-up guy, eating sandwiches in the morgue and resting his food on corpses between making necrophilia jokes, getting laid and watching sexy aerobics videos between autopsies. It’s easy to understand why nurse Robbie (Roberta) was unable to resist the charm of the “Super Bowl of Self Abuse”. Unfortunately we really only get a small glimpse at what I’m sure was a relationship that defined romance, but clearly dead bodies didn’t ruin the mood when it came to the passion between these two lovebirds.

3. Billy and Lana (Friday the 13th: A New Beginning)

billy

lana

Billy and Lana were the ultimate party couple that surely everyone in town wanted to hang out with. Billy had the cocaine, and Lana was clearly ready to pop her breasts out for one reason or another, hence the scene in which she opens her shirt to the mirror, and says, “It’s Showtime!” From the sound of it, a party of Bob Morton proportions was in store for the evening until Roy decided to kill them for some reason that remains a mystery to me.

2. Andy and Debbie (Friday the 13th Part 3)

debbie

debbie and andy

This is the one of the few couples from the franchise whose love was so great, they were to have a child together. Andy was the cool guy who could juggle, walk on his hands and drop a yo-yo in his pregnant girlfriend’s face. Debbie liked to read Fangoria, was opposed to yo-yos in her face, and had better things for Andy to do with his hands than juggle. If only Jason didn’t split Andy in half and stab her after somehow hiding underneath a hammock, killing the young mother to be and her unborn child.

Wow, Jason was a real son of a bitch in Part 3, with the rape, cannibalism, and unborn child murder.

1. Anita and Demon (Friday the 13th: A New Beginning)

anita

Demon

Finally, we have my favorite couple in all of Friday the 13th. These two spent their time hanging out in a van, eating enchiladas, and goofing around in and around shithouses. While Demon may have come off as a no good woman beater with comments like “You’re gonna get it bitch!” I feel like the chemistry between them suggested that he was just joking and she was in on the joke. She knew he’d feel better after he shit (as evidenced by the line, “Lighten up, Demon. You’ll feel a lot better after you shit.”)

These two are also responsible for the most beautiful moment shared between two lovers throughout the entire franchise when they sang “Oooh baby, ooh baby, ooh baby, hey baby” to each other (through the walls of a shithouse).

If that doesn’t say romance, I don’t know what does.

‘Evil Dead’ Film Franchise Getting TWO New Installments

Published

on

It was a risk for Fede Alvarez to reboot Sam Raimi’s horror classic The Evil Dead in 2013, but that risk paid off and so did its spiritual sequel Evil Dead Rise in 2023. Now Deadline is reporting that the series is getting, not one, but two fresh entries.

We already knew about the Sébastien Vaniček upcoming film that delves into the Deadite universe and should be a proper sequel to the latest film, but we are broadsided that Francis Galluppi and Ghost House Pictures are doing a one-off project set in Raimi’s universe based off of an idea that Galluppi pitched to Raimi himself. That concept is being kept under wraps.

Evil Dead Rise

“Francis Galluppi is a storyteller who knows when to keep us waiting in simmering tension and when to hit us with explosive violence,” Raimi told Deadline. “He is a director that shows uncommon control in his feature debut.”

That feature is titled The Last Stop In Yuma County which will release theatrically in the United States on May 4. It follows a traveling salesman, “stranded at a rural Arizona rest stop,” and “is thrust into a dire hostage situation by the arrival of two bank robbers with no qualms about using cruelty-or cold, hard steel-to protect their bloodstained fortune.”

Galluppi is an award-winning sci-fi/horror shorts director whose acclaimed works include High Desert Hell and The Gemini Project. You can view the full edit of High Desert Hell and the teaser for Gemini below:

‘Invisible Man 2’ Is “Closer Than Its Ever Been” to Happening

Published

on

Elisabeth Moss in a very well-thought-out statement said in an interview for Happy Sad Confused that even though there have been some logistical issues for doing Invisible Man 2 there is hope on the horizon.

Podcast host Josh Horowitz asked about the follow-up and if Moss and director Leigh Whannell were any closer to cracking a solution to getting it made. “We are closer than we have ever been to cracking it,” said Moss with a huge grin. You can see her reaction at the 35:52 mark in the below video.

Happy Sad Confused

Whannell is currently in New Zealand filming another monster movie for Universal, Wolf Man, which might be the spark that ignites Universal’s troubled Dark Universe concept which hasn’t gained any momentum since Tom Cruise’s failed attempt at resurrecting The Mummy.

Also, in the podcast video, Moss says she is not in the Wolf Man film so any speculation that it’s a crossover project is left in the air.

Meanwhile, Universal Studios is in the middle of constructing a year-round haunt house in Las Vegas which will showcase some of their classic cinematic monsters. Depending on attendance, this could be the boost the studio needs to get audiences interested in their creature IPs once more and to get more films made based on them.

The Las Vegas project is set to open in 2025, coinciding with their new proper theme park in Orlando called Epic Universe.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s Thriller ‘Presumed Innocent’ Series Gets Early Release Date

Published

on

Jake gyllenhaal presumed innocent

Jake Gyllenhaal’s limited series Presumed Innocent is dropping on AppleTV+ on June 12 instead of June 14 as originally planned. The star, whose Road House reboot has brought mixed reviews on Amazon Prime, is embracing the small screen for the first time since his appearance on Homicide: Life on the Street in 1994.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s in ‘Presumed Innocent’

Presumed Innocent is being produced by David E. Kelley, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, and Warner Bros. It is an adaptation of Scott Turow’s 1990 film in which Harrison Ford plays a lawyer doing double duty as an investigator looking for the murderer of his colleague.

These types of sexy thrillers were popular in the ’90s and usually contained twist endings. Here’s the trailer for the original:

According to Deadline, Presumed Innocent doesn’t stray far from the source material: “…the Presumed Innocent series will explore obsession, sex, politics and the power and limits of love as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.”

Up next for Gyllenhaal is the Guy Ritchie action movie titled In the Grey scheduled for release in January 2025.

Presumed Innocent is an eight-episode limited series set to stream on AppleTV+ starting June 12.
