New Chinese “Anaconda” Remake Features Circus Performers Against A Giant Snake [Trailer]
Sony Pictures, in collaboration with Canno Studio Pictures and Xiang Bros Studios, has unveiled the trailer for a new Chinese remake of the 1997 thriller classic, ‘Anaconda‘. Titled ‘Hundred Poisons Rampage‘, this fresh interpretation offers a novel twist by centering on a group of circus performers who face off against a formidable giant snake. Watch the intense trailer below:
The original ‘Anaconda‘ film, known for its “nature run amok” theme, featured a documentary crew navigating the Amazon in search of a mythical tribe, only to find themselves hunted by a colossal anaconda. Directed by Luis Llosa, the film boasted a script by Hans Bauer, Jim Cash, and Jack Epps Jr., and a notable cast including Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube.
In stark contrast, the Chinese remake introduces audiences to a new survival story: “A group of circus performers, on their way to what they think is a new performance location, become stranded in a lush rainforest after the boat they were on, and the captain leading the way, are eaten and destroyed by an anaconda with a special red marking. They cross paths with a deadly poacher who is hunting the anaconda, who realizes that he might now have enough bait to catch him. But being circus performers, they have a few survival tricks up their sleeves.”
This plot pivot is directed by Qiuliang Xiang and Hesheng Xiang, featuring a diverse cast including Terence Yin, Nita Lei, and Ruoyan Xia, among others. The movie not only promises thrilling action but also showcases the unique skills of circus performers in a battle against nature’s formidable predator.
Parallel to the release of the Chinese remake, Sony’s Columbia Pictures is developing a reboot of the original ‘Anaconda‘, aiming to enhance the movie’s scope and budget significantly. Three and a half years ago, Sony’s Columbia Pictures announced that they were developing a reboot / reimagining of the 1997 ‘nature run amok’ thriller Anaconda, with the intention of ‘taking what was a simple and relatively cheap programmer with a B-movie concept and event-izing it in scope and budget.’
Tom Gormican is considered for writing and possibly directing the film, with a unique meta approach hinted: “actors playing loose fictional versions of themselves who go off to make an Anaconda movie and all hell breaks loose.” Rumors also swirl around potential casting, including Pedro Pascal and Paul Rudd, adding to the anticipation of how this reimagined project will eventually unfold.

Unbelievably Cool ‘Scream’ Trailer But Re-Imagined As A 50s Horror Flick
Ever wonder what your favorite horror movies would look like if they had been made in the 50s? Thanks to We Hate Popcorn But Eat It Anyway and their use of modern technology now you can!
The YouTube channel reimagines modern movie trailers as mid-century pulp flicks using AI software.
What is really neat about these bite-sized offerings is that some of them, mostly the slashers go against what cinemas had to offer over 70 years ago. Horror movies back then involved atomic monsters, scary aliens, or some sort of physical science gone awry. This was the era of the B-movie where actresses would put their hands against their faces and let out over-dramatic screams reacting to their monstrous pursuer.
With the advent of new color systems such as DeLuxe and Technicolor, movies were vibrant and saturated in the 50s enhancing primary colors that electrified the action happening on screen, bringing a whole new dimension to films using a process called Panavision.
Arguably, Alfred Hitchcock upended the creature feature trope by making his monster a human in Psycho (1960). He used black and white film to create shadows and contrast which added suspense and drama to every setting. The final reveal in the basement would probably not have been if he had used color.
Jump to the 80s and beyond, actresses were less histrionic, and the only emphasized primary color was blood red.
What is also unique about these trailers is the narration. The We Hate Popcorn But Eat It Anyway team has captured the monotone narration of 50s movie trailer voiceovers; those over-dramatic faux news anchor cadences that emphasized buzz words with a sense of urgency.
That mechanic died out long ago, but luckily, you can see what some of your favorite modern horror movies would look like when Eisenhower was in office, developing suburbs were replacing farmland and cars were made with steel and glass.
Here are some other noteworthy trailers brought to you by We Hate Popcorn But Eat It Anyway:

‘Presumed Innocent’ Trailer: 90s-Style Sexy Thrillers Are Back
Jake Gyllenhaal might be Presumed Innocent, but in this official trailer for the eight-part AppleTV+ series the evidence is to the contrary. Fresh off of his Amazon stint as a barroom cooler in Road House, Gyllenhaal is going from blue-collar to white-collar in his latest project produced by David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams.
Based on the 1987 book by Scott Turow, this is the latest adaptation of that legal thriller—the first being in 2000 starring Harrison Ford. “It tells the story of a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office when one of its own is suspected of the crime.”
The 90s provided movie-going audiences with lots of sexy thrillers. Perhaps the most famous being Basic Instinct. From there Hollywood kept churning them out. They were mostly set in places with procedural tasks, such as a law firm or police precinct. But they always had a sex scene.
By the look of the Presumed Innocent trailer, it seems we are getting a callback to those days. The cast also includes Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, and Peter Sarsgaard. The first two episodes will premiere on AppleTV+ on June 12.
