The Castlevania franchise has had its ups and downs, but for many it holds a special place in their little gaming hearts. I, myself, have the Castlevania: Symphony of the Night soundtrack and listen to it often. Whether you grew up with the games, recently discovered them or just have an affinity for vampires, we can all agree the games create a unique world and a different take on the Dracula story.

Well, as Sam Jackson so eloquently said in Jurrasic Park, “hold on to your butts,” everybody, because Netflix has some news for you.

According to an an article by Gizmodo, a Castlevania show is coming for us, THIS YEAR. There’s not much anyone knows about it but Netflix hosted an event to day to discuss what they were bringing to the table this year and included the little gem that is Castlevania with a 2017 release date.

There’s no info on who the protagonist is, if it follows the games or is its own story, or even in what season we can expect it, but this isn’t the first time there has been Castlevania show whispers. Back in 2015, producer Adi Shankar (Dredd, Lone Survivor) announced that he was working with Adventure Time producers Frederator on an animated Castlevania project.

According to Adi’s post, it would be dark and intense. That was a while ago, so it will be interesting to see the direction it went in. It is said that Warren Ellis is writing the first season of the series for Netflix, but based on the article from The Globe and Mail, this is being handled by the animation firm Wow Unlimited media, started by Michael Hirsch.

According to Hirsch this is his, “next venture into kids’ programming.” With a company aiming at the youth market, I’m not sure how dark and violent the new series will be, but it is all just speculation until we get more information. As soon as we hear more, we will let you know.
