Universal Brand Development has announced a new partnership to promote the heck out of the next film in the Jurassic Park series, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The highly anticipated sequel promises to be “darker and scarier“, bringing massive animatronics back to the park.
With their new partnership, we can expect to see some Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom toys from Mattel, Lego, and Funko in Spring of 2018. We previously had a lot of Lego sets based on Jurassic World, but this is their first partnership with Funko. This could mean that we are also blessed with some official Jurassic Park Funko Pop! Vinyl figures in the near future.
From the press release from ToyNews Online:
“This will be a focused UK campaign with opportunities to maximise the popularity of the franchise throughout 2018, starting with a focus on the classic movie and moving into activity for the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, followed by back to school and subsequently the DVD release,” said Hannah Mungo, country director UK & Ireland Consumer Products at NBC Universal Brand Development.
“Early commitment from such strong licensing partners as these indicates the confidence we all have in this much loved entertainment brand.”
Now, this is mostly speculation on my part, but with the mention of “a focus on the classic movie”, we could finally be getting the Dr. Ian Malcolm Funko Pop! Vinyl figure we’ve all been waiting for… sorry, that I’ve been waiting for.
There are tutorials online on how to DIY your own, but there’s something deeply satisfying about getting the real deal. Bonus points if he’s mostly bare-chested and holding a cup of water so he can explain chaos theory.
So if you’ve been waiting to see these toys become a reality, don’t quote me on it yet, but hold onto that hope. I’m simply saying that life, uh… finds a way.
Directed by J.A Bayona (A Monster Calls, The Orphanage), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opens June 22, 2018 and sees the return of stars Chris Pratt and Bryca Dallas Howard. For more info, click here!
