In Australia, what doesn’t kill you will make you wish it had. Because, the things that try to kill you are the stuff of nightmares. If you survive, most likely the rest of your days will be spent flinching at fast moving objects and spending a lot of time in a therapist’s office. Such is the case for the horrifying altercation between a Huntsman spider and a mouse. Lucky for the mouse he did not survive.
In the short video, filled end-to-end with absolute nope, you see a huntsman holding a mouse, while walking vertically up a wall. The only bit of comfort in this horrifying clip comes from the fact that the mouse already appears to have been dead.
As reported by The Guardian, Australian Museum arachnid expert Helen Smith said, “I would be very surprised if a huntsman would attack a mouse and even if it did, that the venom would be sufficient to kill it fast enough for the spider to still have hold of it.”
Then again, stranger things have happened and it is totally possible that Jeffery Dahmer was reincarnated as a spider. Maybe this guy just has a taste for murder of the mammal variety.
“This is the first time I’ve seen one catch a mouse, but I have seen huntsmen catch geckos. I’ve seen a redback spider catch a snake in its web, I’ve seen a golden orb spiders catch birds,” manager of the Australian Museum’s archeology collection, Graham Millage said.
Either way, this spider lives in peoples homes. I like arachnids for the most part, but a Hannibal Lectar spider that enjoys murdering adorable Stuart Little, is something that needs to be killed with fire. For me anyways.
Jason Wormal, who shot the video (on the other hand,) assured everyone that he did not kill the spider. In fact he named his new flatmate, Hermie. Hermie the Huntsman.
