Scott Mescudi ended the caption with a dare: “Heads aint ready…” Above it sat the first images from Wrong Number, the stalker horror movie Kid Cudi wrote, directed, scored and stars in, and the first look anyone outside the production has had since cameras started rolling in Los Angeles last month.
He posted it Thursday on his own account, billing it as a “lil sneak peek” and crediting cinematographer Adam Madrzyk next to himself.

Five Jobs on One Movie
Wrong Number follows Ibn, a solitary self-help author whose romance with the enigmatic Eliza turns into something far worse once an unseen stalker starts circling and a run of homicides gets pinned on him. Mescudi plays Ibn. Barbie Ferreira plays Eliza, with Lucy Barrett, Dewayne Perkins, Clifton Powell and Laura Harrier filling out the cast.

Mescudi wrote the script, is directing, is composing the score and takes the lead. Mad Solar, the company he runs with Karina Manashil, is producing alongside Mark Webber, Anthony Baldino and Ryan Lacen.
“A lot of people know that I’m a huge horror buff. And it was only a matter of time before I’d jump into the genre myself with my own stories,” Mescudi told Deadline when the film was first announced in September.
He Has Been in the Genre Already
Mescudi played Jackson Hollis in X, Ti West‘s 1979-set farmhouse slasher, and executive produced it. He turned up two years later as The Thinker in M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap. Directing one is the new part: his first feature behind the camera, the addiction drama Doe, is in post-production and due next year.
Ferreira is further into the genre than her casting suggests. She carried Daniel Goldhaber’s Faces of Death this spring, a reimagining of the 1978 shockumentary that cast her as a content moderator pulled into the tape she is paid to watch, and it put her opposite Dacre Montgomery and Charli XCX.

Harrier comes from the other direction entirely, with Spider-Man: Homecoming, BlacKkKlansman and One Night in Miami behind her and no real horror on the résumé yet. Her role has not been named.

No distributor has been announced and no release date is set. The score is the thing to listen for: Mescudi is writing it himself, and a stalker movie lives on sound long before it lives on reveals.
