The Wolf Creek franchise is set to make a brutal return with Wolf Creek: Legacy, the long-awaited third installment of the Australian slasher series. Cineverse and its horror division, Bloody Disgusting, have acquired the North American rights to the film, which is slated for a theatrical release in fall 2026.

John Jarratt is set to reprise his role as the sadistic Outback killer Mick Taylor, a character that has cemented Wolf Creek as one of the most unsettling horror franchises of the last two decades. The cast also includes Jay Ryan and Laura Gordon.

Sean Lahiff (Carnifex) will direct the film, working closely with franchise creator Greg McLean, who is producing alongside Bianca Martino for Emu Creek Pictures. Lahiff has been involved with Wolf Creek before, having worked as the editor on Wolf Creek 2 and the Wolf Creek TV series. Additional producers include Jeremy Bolt (Resident Evil franchise) and Kristian Moliere (The Babadook), with Adrian Speckert and Cory Todd Hughes serving as executive producers.

The new film follows a family of American tourists who unknowingly stumble into Mick Taylor’s hunting grounds. As the parents sacrifice themselves to save their children, the young survivors are left stranded in the vast Australian wilderness, forced to evade Mick’s relentless pursuit.

Greg McLean has expressed excitement about the project, stating, “I’m thrilled to be returning to Wolf Creek with this exciting creative team, led by director Sean Lahiff, armed with a fantastic and genuinely frightening script. Mick Taylor will be terrorizing tourists, horror fans, and the big screen once again very soon.”

Cineverse’s Chief Strategy Officer and President, Erick Opeka, calls Wolf Creek “one of the greatest slasher movies of all time with one of the most terrifying villains.” He sees Wolf Creek: Legacy as a strong addition to the company’s expanding horror lineup, which also includes Terrifier 3 and a reimagining of Silent Night, Deadly Night.

For longtime fans of the franchise, Wolf Creek: Legacy promises a return to the raw intensity that made the original film a cult favorite. With Lahiff at the helm and McLean overseeing the production, horror audiences can expect a chilling, relentless experience when the film hits theaters in 2026.
