Lovecraft Country premiered on HBO this past Sunday. To say that it was well-received is a bit of an understatement. Fans feverishly took to Twitter to chat about all the H.P. Lovecraft references and to chat about the moving drama elements that weave in and out of the true monster of racism.
It’s a brilliant debut episode that is one part drama and two parts creature feature. Matt Ruff’s book by the same name fits well alongside producers Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams. Added to that the cast is phenomenal and as if all that isn’t enough it is surprisingly gory.
So, HBO has done everyone the favor of making the first episode free on Youtube. This of course allows people to get a taste of the series to determine if the series is worth a subscription to HBO Max or HBO.
I don’t usually watch TV episodes more than once, but I caught myself watching the first episode of Lovecraft Country multiple times. It’s got a rich tapestry to pull from and they are doing a great job of executing the delivery perfectly.
The synopsis for Lovecraft Country goes like this:
“Veteran and pulp-fiction aficionado Atticus Freeman travels from the Jim Crow South to his South Side of Chicago hometown in search of his missing father Montrose.”
If you are a fan of H.P. Lovecraft this is an absolute must see. Even if you aren’t a huge fan, I really suggest giving it a look.
