If you caught last night’s Oscar’s you probably audibly groaned when Demi Moore didn’t get the statue for Best actress for The Substance. But horror lost twice because the Academy’s “In Memoriam” segment forgot two genre legends we lost in 2024—one an original scream queen and final girl!

Tony Todd (Candyman) and Olivia Hussey (Black Christmas) were absent from the annual salute. We lost Todd last November and Hussey in December.

Todd was more prolific in the genre remembered for his roles in the Candyman and Final Destination films. Hussey is more renown for her dramatic parts, but her performance as Jess in Black Chirstmas forever solidified her title as a scream queen and horror legend. She also had roles in the 1990 mini series It and Psycho IV: The Beginning.

The Academy isn’t perfect and they also forgot to include: Chance Perdomo, Alain Delon, Tony Roberts, Linda Lavin, James Darren, Mitzi Gaynor, Martin Mull, Michelle Trachtenberg and documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock.

So why do some people get on the list and some are forgotten? It comes down to Hollywood politics. We aren’t sure why Todd and Hussey were forgotten, it could have been a few things. Film School Rejects lists five possible reasons for omission; you can read more HERE.
