Top 8 Horror Movies Coming Very Early in 2023

Published

on

M3gan (January 6)

Another year, another killer doll. But this one is infused with James Wan’s genius. Will the movie walk on its own, or is it a full diaper? We will find out soon enough.

Logline: A robotics engineer at a toy company builds a life-like doll that begins to take on a life of its own.

True Haunting (January 6)

We aren’t sure if this is just the working title of the movie, or the official one. But we do know it stars The Boys’ Erin Moriarty alongside Jamie Campbell Bower (Vecna in Stranger Things).

logline: The terrifying story of the first televised exorcism on NBC in 1971. The NBC news segment was a success, the exorcism was not. Instead, it made things worse for the Becker family who lived there. Much worse.

Snow Falls (January 17)

Is this like Frozen (2010) meets Cabin Fever?

logline: This terrifying wintertime horror tale will chill you to the bone. As med student Eden joins four friends at a remote cabin to celebrate New Year’s, party time quickly turns serious when a brutal winter storm isolates the kids and knocks out the power. After making frozen cocktails with the snow, Eden and her friends start acting strangely. Convinced that the flakes have infected them with an evil virus, they struggle to stay awake to avoid freezing to death. Who will survive this icy ordeal?

Fear (January 20)

No, it’s not a remake of the Mark Wahlberg thriller. Although that one is coming in the form of a series. No, this one is a horror movie based on a pandemic. Not much is known about it so keep checking back.

logline: A much-needed getaway and a celebration weekend turn into a nightmare due to the contagious airborne threat.

Knock at the Cabin (February 3)

We couldn’t have a year without a Shyamalan film and this year we’re getting two. First up is this home invasion horror.

logline: While vacationing at a remote cabin, a young girl and her parents are taken hostage by four armed strangers who demand that the family make an unthinkable choice to avert the apocalypse. With limited access to the outside world, the family must decide what they believe before all is lost.

Scream 6 (March 10)

That didn’t take long! Let’s hope the brevity in production doesn’t transfer to the screen or we might have another Halloween Ends on our hands.

The Pope’s Exorcist (April 7)

Russell Crowe surprised us with his 2020 psychotic road rage thriller Unhinged. Hopefully he can recapture lightning in a bottle with this supernatural offering from Overlord director Julius Avery.

logline: Portrayal of a real-life figure Father Gabriele Amorth, a priest who acted as chief exorcist of the Vatican and who performed more than 100,000 exorcisms in his lifetime. (He passed away in 2016 at the age of 91.) Amorth wrote two memoirs — An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories — and detailed his experiences battling Satan and demons that had clutched people in their evil.

Evil Dead Rise (April 21)

Jury’s still out on whether Ash will make a cameo. That would be nice, but we really didn’t need him in the remake (although that also would have been nice). No, this one has a whole new protagonist and we are all waiting to see if they can handle the Deadites in the big city.

logline: A twisted tale of two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.

A24’s DIY ‘Hereditary’ Gingerbread Treehouse Set Is a Holiday Treat

Published

on

Paimon may have a hold on Peter in the movie Hereditary, but, don’t lose your head, because now you can build your own sacrificial treehouse just in time for the holidays.

That’s right, the Ari Aster classic is honored in this new do-it-yourself gingerbread house kit from A24. For just $62 you can possess the halls this Christmas with the edible replica from the Graham’s backyard.

Here is the description of everything your kit comes with:

“Cast iron mold plate, plastic treehouse base, recipe card, instruction booklet, and a tealight to illuminate your treehouse at night.

Cast iron base builds one complete treehouse, as well as a gingerbread Peter, Paimon, and worshippers.

Made from food-safe ABS plastic, the base includes a forest-floor textured base plate, four ‘birch’ legs, a platform, and a ladder.”

A24

Looks like the only thing you’re missing is a hot (c)oven.

If you remember in the movie Hereditary, Annie Graham is slowly going insane, or at least she thinks she is. But as she deep dives into her family history, she discovers that not everything is as it seems. In fact, she is from a bloodline of a powerful queen witch whose followers are hellbent on resurrecting an influential demon.

A24

With a makeshift Garrott made of piano wire, Annie beheads herself and her body is supernaturally transported into the family’s backyard treehouse where the ritual for King Paimon’s re-birth can be performed. Her son Peter, whose soul has been exorcised, is now the new host.

It just screams festive!

One of the great things about this is that some of your relatives are not going to get the reference and then you can explain it to them over the dinner table. Or better yet, why not liven up the squad and do a viewing party with the whole family?! With a little skill, you can even create the head of the turkey and lay a pair of scissors next to it. What a theme!

Now that’s one get-together no one is likely to forget.

Artist Recreates 6 Famous Horror Houses Like ‘Fright Night’ Poster

Published

on

Adam Perocchi calls himself “the artist of things” on Instagram. And that broad moniker appears to be true especially if you see the array of collectibles he has made on his eBay page.

Recently on his Instagram; handle called readfulthings, the artist posted some illustrations that seem familiar, but a little off:

“I’ve been making these Fright Night style poster things lately – not for any particular reason, it’s just fun,” he wrote.

It didn’t take long for his followers to commend him on his creativity. They even threw out some pitches of movies they would like to see made into Fright Night posters.

“All of these are so freaking cool my friend. Please make more! Maybe Shaun of the Dead, The Frighteners, Young Frankenstein, Casper, Dracula, Pumpkinhead, and/or Child’s Play?” one poster asked.

“Can’t wait to see a Nightmare on Elmstreet (sic) version!” exclaimed another.

And the suggestions just kept coming: “Can you do The Shining? And then can I buy it?”

“Make one for Return of the living dead 2 ;)”

Here is the original 1986 one-sheet for Fright Night (1985):

You will notice that the Barbarian image is spoiler-free since revealing it would ruin the movie for some. “Thank you for the ‘no spoilers’ sticker. Very thoughtful. And brilliant posters,” replied happyembalmer.

Although some people aren’t a fan of the original movie, Perocchi’s subscribers appear to love the concept, “Such an awesome idea, and *brilliant* execution. The Halloween and the Psycho ones are my favorite,” wrote astro.toaster.

Perocchi admits that it’s “just fun” making these clever mockups. Some of his fans are asking to buy prints. We at iHorror, unfortunately, couldn’t find any on sale through his eBay store. But you can enjoy them here and while you’re at it, check out his shop. He has got a few neat things such as a Halloween and Halloween III action figure up for bids.

A Sequel to ‘M3GAN’ Is Already Being Discussed at Universal

Published

on

The first one isn’t even out yet, but according to The New York Times, a sequel to M3GAN is already being tossed about at Universal.

When the trailer for the James Wan-inspired killer android doll named in the film’s title debuted, the internet went crazy. Most notably on Tik Tok. In one scene the lifelike American Girl dolly can be seen doing some kind of Fortnite victory dance. The M3GAN hashtag was born and millions upon millions of people shared it.

The movie may never have happened if Warner Bros. had anything to say about it. Wan, who wrote the story, approached execs at the almighty water tower, but they passed, saying their Annabelle franchise (which Wan also created) was the only doll movie they needed.

Wan then asked his friend and recent business partner Jason Blum who jumped at the project. Which led them to Universal and a subsequent green light.

@fandango

hey everyone, meet M3GAN, your new best friend 🙃 In theaters January 2023 #m3gan #horror #horrortok #wtf

Although Warner Bros. doesn’t seem the worse for wear in passing up the movie. In 2023 they have an incredible slate of highly anticipated films: Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Evil Dead Rise, Meg 2: The Trench, The Nun 2, and Wonka.

And now with the Wan/Blum merger, the dynamic duo can pretty much do what they want.

Whether or not M3GAN can capture lightning in a bottle and justify a sequel remains to be seen. You can make up your own mind on January 6 when the movie hits theaters.
