Hey Tightwads! It’s time for another Tightwad Terror Tuesday, which means more free movies to get you ready for Halloween! Here they are!
The Fog is about a coastal town that is celebrating its centennial. While preparing for the festivities, a supernatural fog rolls in…and with it, comes secrets of the town’s past.
This 1980 spookfest was John Carpenter’s theatrical follow-up to his breakthrough Halloween (he did make 2 TV movies in the interim, though). In typical Carpenter style, he wrote (along with Debra Hill), directed, and scored the film, and the cast includes such names as Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh, Adrienne Barbeau, Tom Atkins, Hal Holbrook, and John Houseman. This was remade horribly in 2005, but this is the original. You need to see it, and see it you can here at TubiTV.
Toad Road is about a pair of friends that becomes obsessed with a location known as Toad Road that is rumored to hide the gate to hell. While on drugs, the two go to Toad Road. The girl disappears, and the boy wakes up six months later with no recollection of where he’s been or what he’s done.
Told in a verité, pseudo-documentary style of filmmaking, Toad Road is a creepy little 2012 movie, made even creepier by the fact that its lead actress, Sara Anne Jones, passed away of a drug overdose as the film was making its festival run. Have a look at Toad Road here at KinoCult.
Curve is about a bride-to-be who, on the way to meet her fiancé and get married, has car trouble. A good samaritan helps her out, and as a reward, she offers him a ride. When he attempts to abduct her, she purposely crashes her truck and winds up trapped…although he escapes.
For a contained thriller, this 2015 movie is pretty effective. Julianne Hough stars as the damsel-in-distress, and Teddy Sears is her savior-turned-tormentor. Check out Curve here at TubiTV.
Skeletons in the Closet
Skeletons in the Closet is a 2018 collection of cool Tales from the Crypt-esque shorts that masquerade as a late-night television horror show that a kid is watching with his hapless babysitter. Of course, real life gets just as treacherous as the on-screen terror.
Initially known as Chop Shop, Skeletons in the Closet is an insanely fun bit of retro-kitsch with a cool 80s aesthetic, not entirely unlike WNUF Television Special, but not really similar to it, either. If you like 80s anthology movies, you’ll dig Skeletons in the Closet. Dig it for yourself here at Vudu.
The Plague Dogs
As if director Martin Rosen didn’t ruin your childhood enough with Watership Down, he came back in 1982 with The Plague Dogs. This animated feature is about two naïve dogs who escape the horrors of a biological testing lab, only to face more horrors in the outside world as they make their desperate run for freedom.
The Plague Dogs is a cartoon, but it’s still both heartbreaking and horrific. Although most of the violence is directed towards the humans, the dogs are the sympathetic characters. This one will be hard to watch for the dog lovers out there. You’ve been warned. See The Plague Dogs here at TubiTV.
