This past week in horror has been one filled with announcements of all kinds leading up to the Halloween season. Sequels and prequels have been announced and teased. Additionally, events to celebrate the witching season have also dropped.

Whether you want to watch horror movies from the theater or the comfort of your home, or even venture outside for a more hands-on experience, it’s time to kick off this Halloween season!

It has been 13 years since the release of World War Z by Marc Forster, and now a sequel is in the works. Brad Pitt returns to star in the follow up to World War Z with director Edward Berger. Pitt and Berger have just finished working together earlier this year in The Riders, and are rolling into production on the zombie flick.

Regal Cinema has released their list of movies for their 31 Screams on Screen line up. This is the company’s second year celebrating horror movies. Tickets are only $7.99 before taxes, a dollar LESS than last year’s price. The movies span across the genre, from independent flicks to franchise favorites. The Shining (1980), The Conjuring (2013), Midsommar director’s cut (2019), and It Follows (2014) are just a few slated to be shown.

The final movie on October 31st is oddly not John Carpenter’s 1978 Halloween, which will be screened the night before. Instead the month event ends with 2007’s Trick ‘r Treat by Michael Dougherty.

Hokum starring Adam Scott comes to Hulu on October 10th. The film was released from NEON, a production company that has some heavy hitters in the horror genre, including: Longlegs (2024) and Bad Hair (2020).

The movie based on an Irish ghost story based in a haunted hotel was highly received by fans during its theatrical run. Be sure to grab your security blanket while you watch on the couch, because this sounds like a creepy one!

Mike Flanagan, a well known name among horror fans, is bringing Stephen King’s 1980 novella The Mist to life. He is currently penning the script, and will soon direct it. The original film adaptation was released in 2007 and starred Thomas Jane (Deep Blue Sea).

This is not Flannagan’s first time adapting a King story. The filmmaker also brought King’s book Doctor Sleep successfully to the screen.

The Haunted Warren Museum picked up roots from its prior Connecticut home and re-opened in Salem, Massachusetts. The museum opened its doors this past August 2026, and headlines the doll made famous by The Conjuring series: Annabelle. The large Raggedy Anne doll is now on display inside a wooden box with glass door for all to see, for a price of course.

The standard ticket begins at $49.99, but from October 1st-28th jumps to $66.60. If you want to wait until the end of the month to celebrate the holiday, tickets will be $99.90 on October 29th and 30th, and then jumps to $130 on Halloween. The admission buys you a self guided tour throughout the museum’s 13 rooms, and all you are given is a flashlight to guide your way. All other belongings are not permitted beyond the entrance. The experience takes about an hour to complete.

Director Brad Anderson announced at Mass Mini Con that he is developing a script that will serve as a prequel to his film Session 9. He is calling it Session 1, and Stephen Gevedon will also be returning to co-write the movie.

The movie explores the story of Mary Hobbes’, the young girl in the original movie who suffered from multiple personality disorder. Anderson told the convention’s audience that the prequel will focus on her life growing up in the 1960’s and how she came to be possessed.

Anderson originally floated the idea in 2021 to Focus Features who holds the rights to the film, but they passed on the idea. Now he is ready to try and resurrect the idea.
