If you recall all the way back to AMC’s The Walking Dead’s first season, the walkers used to have some smarts about them. They would head to where they once lived or recognize people that they knew in life. Even the little girl with the stuffed animal in the first episode retained human thoughts. Well, it appears that these sorts of zombies will make a return in the final episodes of The Walking Dead.
Frank Darabont not only had zombies that were smarter than average he also had zombies that were slightly harder to kill than the mushy zombies that exist now. In fact, one zombie Rick kills in the first season actually winds him. It instantly proves that it would be impossible to take on more than 2 of them if that. The threat of zombies left with Darabont.
In the finale trailer for The Walking Dead, we have seen that zombies are indeed back to their smarts. Some open doors and one is even seen looking like it is going to climb a wall.
“The truth is we hadn’t really figured out yet what the rules for the zombies were. They were also a bit faster in the first episode when they chased Rick down the street on his horse,” said Greg Nicotero. “There’s another scene where Glenn and Rick are being chased down the alley and they start climbing up a fire escape. And there are walkers climbing up behind them. We were still figuring it out. But we decided that it was an opportunity.”
We can’t wait to see how these zombies are utilized as the series comes to an end.
