The original film The Strangers came out in 2008 and starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman. The film was a sleeper hit and led to the 2018 sequel The Strangers: Prey at Night. The original is high on my list of personal favorites.

Home invasion stories are truly terrifying to most people and The Strangers hit all those creepy chords with me. Not only are we now getting a remake, but it will be part of a complete trilogy.

According to a Deadline exclusive, Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale), Froy Gutierrez (Cruel Summer), and Gabriel Basso (Hillbilly Elegy) will be starring in the new remake with Renny Harlin in the Director’s chair. Production for the film has begun in Slovakia for the first film in this new trilogy that will all be directed by Renny Harlin. Some fans may remember Renny Harlin as the Director of A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, Die Hard 2, Deep Blue Sea and many others.

In the new Strangers remake, we will be following Madelaine Petsch’s character as she road trips cross-country with her longtime boyfriend (Froy Gutierrez) to begin a new life. As they make the trek towards the Pacific Northwest their car breaks down in Venus, Oregon. Trapped in Venus for the night, the couple checks into a secluded Airbnb. This is where the couple encounters three masked strangers that terrorize them from dusk till dawn.
If it’s been a while since you’ve seen The Strangers, watch the 2008 trailer below and remember just how scary this film was!
