A lot of us grew up with Bruce Willis. Watching him be the reluctant, singular hero on the silver screen or on the VCR at home on repeat to the point of worn out tape. But, the friends of Bruce who either came up with Willis or quite literally grew up knowing him have had special enriching relationships with the legendary actor. The Sixth Sense co-star, Haley Joel Osment took to socials this week to share some thoughtful words about Willis, who announced his retirement from acting after following his aphasia diagnosis.
Osment who was only eleven-years-old when he starred along side Willis in M. Night Shyamalan groundbreaking, twist ending film. The duo are a pair of legends in the horror community due to the film. Osment grew up knowing Bruce Willis from the time he was eleven and on.
It’s been difficult to find the right words for someone I’ve always looked up to—first on the big screen, and then by some wild stroke of luck, in person. He’s a true legend who has enriched all of our lives with a singular career that spans nearly half a century. I am so grateful for what I got to witness firsthand, and for the enormous body of work he built for us to enjoy for years and years to come. I just wanted to express the respect and deep admiration I have for Bruce and his family as they move forward with the courage and high spirits that have always defined them. Osment wrote on Instagram.
It pulls at the tears reading that. Not only because it is clearly devastating for Willis’ friends and family but because it leaves us with an understanding that Willis is a complete, total star. A star that manged to burn brightly enough to touch almost everyone on planet Earth. From Die Hard to The Sixth Sense and beyond Willis is the definition of a legend. It’s entirely more devastating to know that the human man, isn’t Unbreakable or too big of star to be affected by the world’s ever-churning, downward-pulling gravity. It is painful for his fans and even more-so for his friends, but for the family who know him as Dad, brother and son, the challenge must be on another plain of reality entirely with its pure heartache. As massive and tragic as this diagnosis is, it becomes clear that this is Bruce Willis at his most heroic and his most legendary. This is his ever-proceeding reputation becoming another level of realness that sees him actually become a hero that faces the big bad guy and holds tight with his real family through it all.
In addition to Osment, The Sixth Sense director, Shyamalan also took to socials to write, “All my love and respect to my big brother Bruce Willis. I know his wonderful family is surrounding him with support and strength. He will always be that hero on that poster on my wall as kid.”
Always a hero indeed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bruce Willis and his family through the entirety of this challenging time.

‘Bambi: The Reckoning’ is Putting the Blood, Guts and Horror in the Classic
Director, Rhys Frake-Waterfield is on a warpath on childhood films. We have been seeing a trend of certain films like Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, and The Grinch get horror takes on them. Next up for the director, he has set Bambi in his sights. According to Dread Central Waterfield’s future project is Bambi: The Reckoning. He will act as a producer on this one with Scott Jeffrey directing.
Recently, Quentin Tarantino called Bambi one of the most terrifying movies made. He has a point. Disney’s original cartoon is seriously a traumatizing experience. It will be interesting to see what Waterfield does with his take. It would be great to see Bambi and her mom be able to get some revenge.
The synopsis for Disney’s original Bambi film went like this:
In this Disney classic a young deer named Bambi joins his new friends, a rabbit named Thumper and a skunk named Flower, in exploring his forest home. As a boy, he learns from his doting mother and his father, The Great Prince of the Forest, that there are dangers in the open meadows where hunters can spot the animals, and he meets a beautiful young doe named Faline. As Bambi grows up, he learns that there is tragedy as well as beauty and joy in his forest world and on the path to adulthood.
“The film will be an incredibly dark re-telling of the 1928 story we all know and love.” Jeffrey told Dread Central. “Finding inspiration from the design used in Netflix’s The Ritual, Bambi will be a vicious killing machine that lurks in the wilderness. Prepare for Bambi on rabies!”
Are you ready for a horror take on Bambi? We will be sure to keep you updated.
