The new The Lost Boys project has become harder to kill than a vampire.
Initially pitched as a series for the CW, the network decided not to move ahead after viewing some of the footage that was filmed before the pandemic shutdown. The Lost Boys and the Kung-Fu reboot were vying for the same spot and the latter took the prize.
Warner Bros. is, however, continuing on with the reboot of the classic 80s vampire flick, this time as a film rather than a series. They’ve even gone so far as to announce initial casting for the film including Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place) and Jaeden Martell (It). It seems they’re going to do this thing one way or another.
Directed by Joel Schumacher and released in 1987, The Lost Boys starred packed a hell of a punch with a fresh-faced cast including Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, Jami Gertz, Billy Wirth, and Alex Winter alongside Dianne Wiest, Edward Herrmann, and Barnard Hughes. The film focused on two brothers who move to a small coastal town in California with their mother to make a new start only to find themselves targeted by a gang of vampires.
It was a near-perfect 80s horror comedy with its tongue firmly set in its cheek and it earned a very loyal cult-following that has stuck by the film for decades.
It will be interesting to see what the updated version of the film will look like. iHorror will keep you posted on all the latest news for the project including further casting, release dates, etc. as it becomes available.
