Ethan Hawke has started taking on villain roles and we are really loving it. He is set to play opposite to Oscar Isaac in Moon Knight which is already pretty rad. In Scott Derrickson’s upcoming thriller based on Joe Hill’s story also stars Hawke as the villain. A while back we revealed Hawke wearing a mask designed by Tom Savini, and now we have another photo of Hawke as The Grabber in The Black Phone.
The synopsis for The Black Phone goes like this:
Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, who is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.
The photo featured in Empire gives us a bloody look at Hawke’s character.
We manged to see The Black Phone at an early screening during Fantastic Fest and absolutely loved the warts and all approach to the 1970’s and kidnapping during that era. It doesn’t pull any punches and is all the better for it.
The Black Phone arrives in theaters Feb. 4 2022.
