March is just around the corner, and Shudder is pulling out all the stops, switching up expectations to feature French horror films, monster movies, and so much more as we look forward to the warmer days of Spring.

What’s on Shudder in March 2022?

March 1st:

The Town that Dreaded Sundown: (Available on Shudder US and Canada) 65 years after a masked serial killer terrorized the small town of Texarkana, the so-called “moonlight murders” begin again. Is it a copycat or something even more sinister? A lonely high school girl may be the key to catching him.

Inside: (Available on Shudder US) Four months after the death of her husband, a woman on the brink of motherhood is tormented in her home by a strange woman who wants her unborn baby.

Livid: (Available on Shudder US) The suggestion of a big treasure hidden somewhere inside Mrs Jessel’s once renowned classical dance academy will become an irresistible lure to a fiendish trap for Lucie and her friends.

Death Drop Gorgeous: (Available on Shudder US, Canada, UKI, and ANZ) A dejected bartender and an aging drag queen try to survive the eccentric and hostile nightlife of a corrupt city, as a masked maniac slaughters young gay men and drains them of blood.

Trouble Every Day: (Available on Shudder US and Canada) American newlyweds Shane (Vincent Gallo) and June Brown (Tricia Vessey) honeymoon to Paris. Once there, Shane secretly begins a search for his former colleague, Leo, who might be in possession of a cure to a tropical virus that has transformed both Shane, and Leo’s wife, Core, into ravenous sexual cannibals.

Bastards: (Available on Shudder US) Marco returns to Paris after his brother-in-law’s suicide, where he targets the man his sister believes caused the tragedy – though he is ill-prepared for her secrets as they quickly muddy the waters.

Evolution: (Available on Shudder US) The only residents of young Nicholas’ sea-side town are women and boys. When he sees a corpse in the ocean one day, he begins to question his existence and surroundings. Why must he, and all the other boys, be hospitalized?

March 3rd:

The Scary of Sixty-First: (Available on Shudder US, Canada, and UKI) Two roommates’ lives are upended after finding out that their new Manhattan apartment harbors a dark secret. Directed by Dasha Nekrasova, The Scary of Sixty-First won the “Best First Feature Award” at the 2021 Berlin International Film Festival. The film stars Madeline QuinnBetsey Brown, and Dasha Nekrasova, and was written by Quinn and Nekrasova.

March 7th:

The Nightmare: (Available on Shudder US and Canada) After attending a rave party, a teenage girl forms a bond with a strange monster as she suffers a slow chaotic mental breakdown.

Memory: The Origins of Alien: (Available on Shudder US) An in-depth voyage into the sci-fi film Alien with the visionary filmmakers who created it. See how one of the most terrifying movies of all time came to life 40 years ago, inspired by ancient mythology and our universal fears.

Darling: (Available on Shudder US and Canada) A lonely girl’s violent descent into madness.

Corporate Animals: (Available on Shudder US) A delusional CEO (Demi Moore) takes her staff of misfits on a disastrous team building retreat led by an overeager guide (Ed Helms). When catastrophe strikes and the food runs out, mandatory office bonding becomes a lot more… appetizing.

March 10th:

The Seed: (Available on Shudder US, Canada, UKI, and ANZ) This horror comedy centers on Deidre (Lucy Martin), Heather (Sophie Vavasseurand Charlotte (Chelsea Edge), lifelong friends finally getting some time away together, using an upcoming meteor shower to gather more followers for their social media channels. But what starts out as a girls’ getaway in the Mojave Desert descends into a battle for survival with the arrival of an alien force whose air of mystery soon proves to be alluring and irresistible to them.

March 14th:

Triangle: (Available on Shudder US) Yacht passengers encounter mysterious weather conditions that force them to jump onto another ship, only to have the odd havoc increase.

Dario Argento’s Trauma: (Available on Shudder US) A young man tries to help a teenage European girl who escaped from a clinic after witnessing the murder of her parents by a serial killer, and they try to find the killer before the killer finds them.

Home with a View of the Monster: (Available on Shudder US and Canada) Dennis and Rita arrive home to a series of mysterious events.

Hounds of Love: (Available on Shudder US) Vicki Maloney is randomly abducted from a suburban street by a disturbed couple. As she observes the dynamic between her captors she quickly realizes she must drive a wedge between them if she is to survive.

Tragedy Girls: (Available on Shudder US) A twist on the slasher genre, following two death-obsessed teenage girls who use their online show about real-life tragedies to send their small mid-western town into a frenzy, and cement their legacy as modern horror legends.

March 17th:

The Bunker Game: (Available on Shudder US, Canada, UKI, and ANZ) An actress in a Live Action Role Playing Game where the participants play the survivors of an atomic war sealed in an underground bunker finds herself trapped inside with other staff. As they begin to die in mysterious ways, the group realizes that someone or something paranormal is playing a twisted game with them—which quickly plunges into a terrifying fight for survival.

March 21st:

Siege: (Available on Shudder US and Canada) A gay bar is hit by a group of sociopaths, and all the patrons are killed except for one man who escapes and takes refuge in an apartment occupied by a group of friends, who will do anything they can to protect him and survive the siege.

Birth of the Living Dead: (Available on Shudder US and Canada) A documentary that shows how George A. Romero gathered an unlikely team of Pittsburghers to shoot his seminal film: Night of the Living Dead (1968).

Await Further Instructions: (Available on Shudder US, Canada, UKI, and ANZ) A family’s Christmas takes a strange turn when they awake to find themselves trapped inside and begin receiving mysterious instructions through the television.

March 24th:

The Spine of Night: (Available on Shudder US, Canada, UKI, and ANZ) In The Spine of Night, an ultra-violent animated fantasy epic, ancient dark magic falls into sinister hands and unleashes ages of suffering onto mankind. A group of heroes from different eras and cultures must band together in order to defeat it at all costs. Featuring the voices of Richard E. Grant, Lucy Lawless, Patton Oswalt, Holly Gabriel and Joe Manganiello, written and directed by Philip Gelatt and Morgan Galen King.

March 25th:

Extra Ordinary: (Available on Shudder US) Rose, a mostly sweet and lonely Irish driving instructor, must use her supernatural talents to save the daughter of Martin (also mostly sweet and lonely) from a washed-up rock star who is using her in a Satanic pact to reignite his fame.

March 28th:

Blood Conscious: (Available on Shudder US and Canada) A vacationing family turns the tables on a mass shooter who claims to be fighting demonic forces.

Minor Premise: (Available on Shudder US, Canada, and ANZ) Attempting to surpass his father’s legacy, a reclusive neuroscientist becomes entangled in his own experiment, pitting ten fragments of his consciousness against each other.

Eaten Alive: (Available on Shudder US and Canada) A psychotic redneck, who owns a dilapidated hotel in rural East Texas, kills various people who upset him or his business, and he feeds their bodies to a large crocodile that he keeps as a pet in the swamp beside his hotel.

March 29th:

Etheria Season 4: (Available on Shudder US, Canada, UKI, and ANZ) Eight new stories by women directors about time warps, emotional-control apps, crime lords, and more!

March 31st:

Night’s End: (Available on Shudder US, Canada, UKI, and ANZ) In Night’s End, an anxious shut-in unwittingly moves into a haunted apartment and hires a mysterious stranger to perform an exorcism which takes a horrific turn. Starring Geno Walker, Felonious Munk, Kate Arrington, and Michael Shannon. Written by Brett Neveu and directed by Jennifer Reeder (Knives and SkinV/H/S/94).

‘Longlegs’ Creepy “Part 2” Teaser Appears on Instagram

Neon Films released an Insta-teaser for their horror film Longlegs today. Titled Dirty: Part 2, the clip only furthers the mystery of what we are in for when this movie is finally released on July 12.

The official logline is: FBI Agent Lee Harker is assigned to an unsolved serial killer case that takes unexpected turns, revealing evidence of the occult. Harker discovers a personal connection to the killer and must stop him before he strikes again.

Directed by former actor Oz Perkins who also gave us The Blackcoat’s Daughter and Gretel & Hansel, Longlegs is already creating buzz with its moody images and cryptic hints. The film is rated R for bloody violence, and disturbing images.

Longlegs stars Nicolas Cage, Maika Monroe, and Alicia Witt.

Melissa Barrera Says ‘Scary Movie VI’ Would Be “Fun To Do”

Melissa Barrera might literally get the last laugh on Spyglass thanks to a possible Scary Movie sequel. Paramount and Miramax are seeing the right opportunity to bring the satirical franchise back into the fold and announced last week one might be in production as early as this fall.

The last chapter of the Scary Movie franchise was almost a decade ago and since the series lampoons thematic horror movies and pop culture trends, it would seem they have a lot of content to draw ideas from, including the recent reboot of slasher series Scream.

Barerra, who starred as final girl Samantha in those movies was abruptly fired from the latest chapter, Scream VII, for expressing what Spyglass interpreted as “antisemitism,” after the actress came out in support of Palestine on social media.

Even though the drama wasn’t a laughing matter, Barrera might get her chance to parody Sam in Scary Movie VI. That is if the opportunity arises. In an interview with Inverse, the 33-year-old actress was asked about Scary Movie VI, and her reply was intriguing.

“I always loved those movies,” the actress told Inverse. “When I saw it announced, I was like, ‘Oh, that would be fun. That would be so fun to do.’”

That “fun to do” part could be construed as a passive pitch to Paramount, but that’s open to interpretation.

Just like in her franchise, Scary Movie also has a legacy cast including Anna Faris and Regina Hall. There is no word yet on if either of those actors will appear in the reboot. With or without them, Barrera is still a fan of the comedies. “They have the iconic cast that did it, so we’ll see what goes on with that. I’m just excited to see a new one,” she told the publication.

Barrera is currently celebrating the box office success of her latest horror movie Abigail.

Thrills and Chills: Ranking ‘Radio Silence’ Films from Bloody Brilliant to Just Bloody

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella are all filmmakers under the collective label called Radio Silence. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are the primary directors under that moniker while Villella produces.

They have gained popularity over the past 13 years and their films have become known as having a certain Radio Silence “signature.” They are bloody, usually contain monsters, and have breakneck action sequences. Their recent film Abigail exemplifies that signature and is perhaps their best film yet. They are currently working on a reboot of John Carpenter’s Escape From New York.

We thought we would go through the list of projects they have directed and rank them from high to low. None of the movies and shorts on this list are bad, they all have their merits. These rankings from top to bottom are just ones we felt showcased their talents the best.

We didn’t include movies they produced but didn’t direct.

#1. Abigail

An update to the second film on this list, Abagail is the natural progression of Radio Silence’s love of lockdown horror. It follows in pretty much the same footsteps of Ready or Not, but manages to go one better — make it about vampires.

This film put Radio Silence on the map. While not as successful at the box office as some of their other films, Ready or Not proved that the team could step outside their limited anthology space and create a fun, thrilling, and bloody adventure-length film.

#3. Scream (2022)

While Scream will always be a polarizing franchise, this prequel, sequel, reboot — however you want to label it showed just how much Radio Silence knew the source material. It wasn’t lazy or cash-grabby, just a good time with legendary characters we love and new ones who grew on us.

#4 Southbound (The Way Out)

Radio Silence tosses their found footage modus operandi for this anthology film. Responsible for the bookend stories, they create a terrifying world in their segment titled The Way Out, which involves strange floating beings and some sort of time loop. It’s kind of the first time we see their work without a shaky cam. If we were to rank this entire film, it would remain at this position on the list.

Southbound

#5. V/H/S (10/31/98)

The film that started it all for Radio Silence. Or should we say the segment that started it all. Even though this isn’t feature-length what they managed to do with the time they had was very good. Their chapter was titled 10/31/98, a found-footage short involving a group of friends who crash what they think is a staged exorcism only to learn not to assume things on Halloween night.

#6. Scream VI

Cranking up the action, moving to the big city and letting Ghostface use a shotgun, Scream VI turned the franchise on its head. Like their first one, this film played with canon and managed to win over a lot of fans in its direction, but alienated others for coloring too far outside the lines of Wes Craven’s beloved series. If any sequel was showing how the trope was going stale it was Scream VI, but it managed to squeeze some fresh blood out of this nearly three-decade mainstay.

#7. Devil’s Due

Fairly underrated, this, Radio Silence’s first feature-length film, is a sampler of things they took from V/H/S. It was filmed in an omnipresent found footage style, showcasing a form of possession, and features clueless men. Since this was their first bonafide major studio job it’s a wonderful touchstone to see how far they have come with their storytelling.
