Drew Hancock‘s next horror film, the one that started as a Reddit post, has a wide theatrical release date. Seasons opens November 12, 2027 from Amazon MGM Studios, The Hollywood Reporter reported Thursday.
It is Hancock’s follow-up to Companion, and he wrote this one as well. Lily James and Jack Reynor play the married couple at the center of it, with Ron Perlman, Elizabeth McGovern, Wes Studi and Dane DiLiegro filling out the cast. Perlman boarded the film in August, per Deadline. Producers include Shawn Levy and Dan Levine’s 21 Laps, Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Scott Glassgold’s 12:01 Films.

The premise fits in a sentence and then refuses to leave. A married couple buys a ranch in an Idaho valley at a price that should have been a warning. The land is already occupied. Staying means submitting to rituals that escalate with every turn of the season. In the Querys’ novel the thing in the valley is a shapeshifting land spirit and the husband is a former Marine, though how closely Hancock’s script tracks the book is not yet known.
Where the Story Came From
Before it was a movie, and before it was a book, it was a post. Matt Query posted “My Wife and I Bought a Ranch” to Reddit’s r/nosleep in February 2020, and it moved fast. The Washington Post reported that Query and his brother Harrison closed a seven-figure Netflix deal the same month they signed their book contract. That book, Old Country, arrived in 2022 and is the credited source for Hancock’s screenplay. The film itself has since moved from Netflix to Amazon MGM.
That route keeps getting shorter. iHorror recently traced how fast the internet can assemble a boogeyman out of nothing. Seasons is the load-bearing version of the same phenomenon: a message board story with enough architecture in it to support a novel, a studio and a wide theatrical date.
What the Cast List Tells You
The name to notice is Dane DiLiegro. He is a creature performer, best known as the Predator in Prey, and nobody hires a man to get inside a suit when the plan is to build the whole thing in a render farm afterward. Something physical is walking around that valley. He and Wes Studi were the last two names added, joining earlier this month per Deadline.

Jack Reynor brings his own history to this. He was Christian in Midsommar, the outsider who strolled into a community with firm opinions about what each season requires of its guests. Casting him again as a man who buys into land that comes with rules is either a coincidence or a very good joke.

And Ron Perlman has been doing this since Guillermo del Toro’s first feature. He led Cronos in 1993, which is thirty-three years of genre standing before anyone reaches for the word Hellboy.

Why November Is the Interesting Part
The date itself is a business story. November 12, 2027 lands Seasons almost two weeks past Halloween and roughly fourteen months from today. Horror normally crowds into October and elbows for the last weekend of the month, which is why the pre-Halloween slate gets so congested every year.
Going wide in mid-November instead gives the film clean air, and claiming the weekend this early is a way of telling every other distributor to plan around it. It is worth remembering that a date set fourteen months out is a statement of intent rather than a contract. Companion was Hancock’s first feature, and the fall 2027 calendar has a lot of blank space left to fill in around him.
What is not known: Amazon MGM has not released footage, a first-look image or a production update. For now the date is the whole announcement, and the date is a long way off.
