Neve Campbell says that Scream 7 will focus on her character Sidney Prescott. The past two films have had Sam and Tara Carpenter storylines played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega respectively. However now that those two actresses are no longer returning to the franchise, it was left to speculation on how the the sequel would continue.

“We are going to follow Sidney,” Campbell verified to Entertainment Tonight. Furthermore, she told the publication her return will be like Jamie Lee Curtis’ in the 2018 Halloween reboot. How that compares to her role in Scream 7 is not clear.

“They did pitch the concept to me, and it’s the reason that I jumped on board,” Campbell says, adding that she still has not laid eyes on the final script.

“I love these movies, they are so much fun to be a part of, I’m so grateful for them, I could never have imagined being a part of a movie that would have lasted this many decades,” Campbell said during the interview.

Wes Craven created Scream in 1996. He chose Campbell to play the lead role of Sidney Prescott after seeing her in the young adult TV drama Party of Five. He thought she could come across as innocent, but also defend herself physically against the killer.

Scream (2022)

Prescott last played Sidney in Scream (2022), but with limited camera time since the plot revolved around the Carpenter sisters and their dealings with the Ghostface killer. An alleged salary dispute kept Campbell from returning for Scream VI, but Barrera and Ortega’s exit left screenwriters to deal with writing a new script.

Campbell has confirmed that Scream 7 will start filming in December. The movie is scheduled to be released in 2025 but no date has been given.
