Edgar Wright’s incredible adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World broke all the damn rules. The groundbreaking film took all of Wright’s sensibilities and added them to the razor-sharp dialogue and whit of O’Malley’s work. Good news for fans of O’Malley’s source six-volume Scott Pilgrim set. Netflix is confirmed by Variety to be working on a Scott Pilgrim anime series.
O’Malley will write, executive produce and act as a co-showrunner along with BenDavid Grabinski. Also, in a very exciting piece of news Edgar Wright and Nina Park along with Marc Platt, Jared LeBoff, and Adam Seigel are all aboard as executive producers.
There isn’t any word on who will give voice to the characters but we are seriously praying that the cast from the film gets to come back to their characters. Especially Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who played Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers in Wright’s film.
It will be exciting to go back to O’Malley’s world. It feels like precisely the right time to revisit and the vast narrative space in a series will allow the story to really grow wings.
We are also hoping that Wright’s executive producer spot expands to a directorial space on an episode or two.
