Earlier in the year, we shared the first trailer for HBO Max’s upcoming Scooby-Doo spin-off. The new series reboots what we know about Scooby Doo and takes things in a very gory and very adult direction. Today we finally got a premiere date for Velma and it turns out we don’t have to wait long.
Mindy Kaling voices and writes the new series that places Velma at the center of a high school filled with murders that need solving. Of course, Velma is the girl to do it.
The new HBO Max series is taking Velma from Scooby-Doo to a whole new level. The series will act as an origin story. So, no Scooby and no Mystery Inc. van. However, we will see Fred, Daphne and Shaggy.
The synopsis for the series goes like this:
VELMA is an adult animated comedy series telling the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang. This original and humorous spin unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.
Velma arrives on HBO Max beginning January 12, 2023.
