As Millenials and Gen Z age out of the 70s nostalgia so revered by Gen X, it’s time to update some movies and TV shows. Such is the case for Salem’s Lot which was originally published by Stephen King in 1975 and then made into a TV movie in 1979. Back then, terrified a generation of 12-year-olds whose bedroom was on the second floor.
Now director Gary Dauberman is updating the story with a modern version headed to Max on October 3. King has seen the movie and he likes it. Although he was a bit confused as to why Warner Bros. sat on it for so long, saying on X, “I’ve seen the new Salem’s Lot and it’s good. Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it’s embarrassing, or anything.”
The series premieres October 3 exclusively streaming on Max.
Dauberman’s version got a trailer drop today so you can make up your own mind on whether it might be good or not. The story follows, “Ben Mears, a writer who spent part of his childhood in Jerusalem’s Lot, Maine, also known as ‘Salem’s Lot, has returned after twenty-five years to write a book about the long-abandoned Marsten House, where he had a bad experience as a child. He soon discovers that an ancient evil has also come to town and its turning the residents into vampires. He vows to stop the plague of undead and save the town.”
