‘Russian Sleep Experiment’ CreepyPasta Being Developed as a Feature Film

Published

on

Every so often a CreepyPasta comes along that rises above the rest. We’ve seen the phenomena that surrounded Slender Man and witnessed numerous adaptations that have followed the likes of Ted the Caver, but few have ever thrilled and terrified readers quite like the Russian Sleep Experiment.

And now, thanks to writer Michael Patrick McCaffrey and director Barry Andersson (Edge of Insanity) this terrifying urban legend will see new life as a feature film in The Soviet Sleep Experiment!

For those who’ve never read the original story, it goes a little something like this:

In the 1940s in the Soviet Union, a group of scientists conducted a military-approved experiment to test the effects of long-term sleep deprivation, and specifically what would happen if those subjects were denied sleep for 30 days. Their test subjects were a group of five political prisoners who were promised freedom if they participated.

As the experiment began, the subjects were placed in a sealed chamber and a gas stimulant was pumped into the room to insure that they stayed awake. A few days into the experiment, one of the test subjects began screaming uncontrollably, and the other subjects began covering the windows of the chamber with paper, using feces and whatever else was at hand to make them stick.

By day nine, the test subjects had gone completely quiet, only barely answering the scientists via intercom, and on day 15, the scientists turned off the stimulant and forced there way into the chamber only to find that the subjects had mutilated themselves, removing organs, tearing off flesh, and had begun practicing self-cannibalism.

The “patients” demanded that the stimulant be turned back on and one attacked and killed a guard. After they were subdued, it was discovered that despite their grievous injuries all of the participants exhibited super human strength, resistance to drugs, and were very difficult to kill.

However, if they fell asleep on their own, they seemed to die peacefully. By the time the number of participants had fallen to one, the doctors themselves had gone quite mad themselves, especially when the remaining victim identified himself as the evil that lurks in the minds of men that can only be suppressed through sleep. The doctor later killed himself.

The new film will star Eva de Dominici (You Shall Not Sleep) and Rafal Zawierucha (The Heritage) as Doctors Ana and Leo Antonoff, the scientists in charge of the infamous study with Chris Kattan (House on Haunted Hill), Michael Villar (Carnage Park), Charles Hubbell (Galaxy of Horrors), and Paul Cram (Kill Game) as various test subjects.

Mogo Media and Walk the Moon Media will produce. There is no word yet on how the film will be distributed, but the film is slated for completion in early 2019.

There’s certainly potential for this to be an unforgettably terrifying film, and we’ll keep you posted on more details as they become available!

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
