Robert Englund Says He is Officially Finished Playing Freddy Krueger

In a recent interview for his documentary Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story Robert Englund talked the future of Freddy Kruger. Sadly, he admitted that it is too late for him to play Kruger again. He said that weight and physical pain were both factors.

“I’m too old and thick to play Freddy now,” Englund told Variety. “I just can’t do fight scenes for more than one take anymore, I’ve got a bad neck and bad back and arthritis in my right wrist. So I have to hang it up, but I would love to cameo.”

It is a bummer to hear Englund say that. But, it is always great for an actor to go out on his own terms and it is cool for him to make the decision instead of someone else delegating.

“I know he respects the genre, and he’s such a fine physical actor,” Englund says about the possibility of Kevin Bacon playing the role of Kruger. “I think that in the silences and in the way Kevin moves — it would be interesting.”
