Here’s a Clip for the Alternate Ending of the ‘Pet Sematary’ Remake

Warning: Spoilers. Don’t scroll further if you haven’t seen Pet Sematary yet.

The ending that audiences got to see at the end of the Pet Sematary remake seemed like a fitting way to end a great update to the story. But it turns out that the ending that was released was not the one that was originally intended for the film.

While the ending was a scary, visceral thing, the original scripted finale was something much more emotional than what we ended up with. EW got an exclusive clip showing part of the ending, which we’ve embedded below. There’s more that happens after this, but you’ll have to wait until the home video release on June 25th for VOD, or July 9th for physical BluRay and DVD formats.

Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer say they like both endings, but test audiences didn’t seem to want this one. Instead, they preferred the one with the now undead family approaching Gage in the car – and though it isn’t explicitly shown, you know what happens when they reach him.

Kölsch says:

“Everybody liked the original scripted ending … But both endings were tested [with preview audiences] and what came back is [the theatrical ending] was clearer to people and it was what people seemed to resonate with and it left them with fewer questions — I don’t mean questions in a good ambiguity way but questions in that people didn’t understand everything that happened.”

Windyer elaborated that the original ending just wasn’t fit for a big theatrical release in this instance. He states:

“[The alternate ending is] the ending that really should be tested a week after you screen a film when you’ve had more time to sit and process it … The theatrical ending is the big loud slam dunk ending where it goes out on a bang. There’s an immediacy to it that’s satisfying. The [original ending] is haunting, it’s lingering, it stays with you.”

The home release will add 90 minutes of extra footage from the Pet Sematary remake.
Widmyer says:
“This is one of those situations where we really liked all the deleted scenes … Sometimes you cut things because they’re not working, but all these scenes are ones we’re big fans of. You’re going to learn more about Rachel and her parents, there’s more Zelda and there’s a very cool back story revealed about Jud and his wife.”

We’re all very excited to see the extra footage from Pet Sematary. Let us know how you feel about the two different endings.

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
