Ti West’s purported final chapter in his lethal showbiz trilogy, MaXXXine, got its second official trailer today. In it, we see our Texas grandma massacre survivor moving to Tinseltown to start her seemingly complicated rise to stardom.

The film moves from the bucolic ’70s setting of its prequel, X, to the hustle and bustle of the big city. The trailer suggests Maxine wants to be a star, but there is murder afoot and she has become a sort of blonde vigilante.

In the ’80s vigilante sexploitation was a popular theme in low budget movies, one in particular, Angel (1984), has become a cult classic and spawned two sequels. That vibe permeates this trailer for MaXXXine but it also feels very giallo in tone.

According to IMDb the storyline involves ’80s adult film star Maxine Minx (Mia Goth) who aspires to be a mainstream actress and gets her big break, “But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.”

West is known for his detailed period piece productions, and MaXXXine is no different. He used the same camera equipment they would have used back then to avoid “modern trickery.”

MaXXine opens in theaters on July 5.
