Netflix and Ryan Murphy Productions continue their partnership with a new entry in their true-crime scripted anthology series Monsters. This time the focus is on the Menendez Brothers who are currently in prison for murdering their parents back in 1989.

Netflix released a teaser for the series today, starring Javier Bardem (José Menendez), Chloë Sevigny (Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez), Cooper Koch (Erik Menendez), and Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Lyle Menendez).

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story

The story made headlines and became one of the biggest publicized court cases of that decade.

The prosecution argued the brothers were seeking to inherit their family fortune, but the siblings claimed – and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole – that their actions stemmed out of fear from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents.

Murphy saw great success with his previous Monsters offering. In 2022 his Netflix series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, starring Evan Peters as the notorious serial killer, was a huge hit even earning Niecy Nash an Emmy for her portrayal of Glenda Cleveland, Dahmer’s suspicious neighbor who helped police capture the killer.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will launch on Netflix starting September 19.
