The first photos from Fede Alvarez Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel have arrived thanks to an awesome piece by Entertainment Weekly. Much like David Gordon Green’s approach to Hallowen, Alvarez and team are tackling a direct sequel to the first film. In fact, this Texas Chainsaw Massacre is picking up following the first Tobe Hooper classic finale.

There is a lot of great stuff in the EW article with the cast and crew of TCM. But, we are loving these photos and we know you will too. The first photo reveals Leatherface slumped over in the rain chainsaw in hand and ready for business. The second photo gives us a great look at the new mincemeat… I mean, cast.

“It’s about a group of people who come to this town and things don’t quite go as planned. It mixes a lot of important real-life issues with horror themes, which is always something I love.” actress, Elsie Fisher said.

“Our take on it was this guy (Leatherface) probably disappeared after everything he’s done. You know, how do you catch a guy who has a mask? Once he removes the mask and runs away, it’s very easy for him to hide somewhere. This story will pick it up many, many years after the original story. He’s been in hiding for a long, long time, trying to be a good person. These people arriving in this town are going to awaken the giant.” Alvarez told Entertainment Weekly.

This both is and isn’t a direct sequel to the first film. Alvarez explains that it doesn’t entirely ignore the film’s sequels. Not totally. Alvarez explains that he loves Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and doesn’t want to disrespect the Tobe Hooper followup.

The film is directed by David Blue Garcia, written by Chris Thomas Devlin and produced by Rodo Sayagues and Fede Alvarez.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre arrives on Netflix on Feb. 18.
