Konami Pulls the Plug on ‘Silent Hills’

Well, it’s official; Silent Hills which was to be directed by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro and featuring Norman Reedus is canceled. Konami has issued the following statement:

“Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however, the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued”.

We knew something was up when the title came into question yesterday (read it here), given Hideo Kojima’s messy breakup with Konami, but we didn’t want to assume to worst. Unfortunately, that’s what happens sometimes. As a huge fan of the Silent Hill series, the last few entries were disappointing and this seemed like it would bring the franchise back around to where it needed to be and make it truly frightening once again. The P.T. demo scared the shit out of me and had me hyped, but when developers don’t get along, it’s the fans who will most likely be suffering the most.

‘Some Like it Rare’ Trailer Gets to the Meat of Horror

Rare

Some Like it Rare’s trailer proves that a cannibalistic horror film can also be a ton of fun. Watching two struggling butchers go for their dreams by way of murder is a lot of fun and while it is a French film, it could easily be compared the nature of the American dream.

The synopsis for Some Like it Rare is as follows:

Butchers Vincent and Sophie’s business is going under and their relationship is on the rocks. But their lives are changed forever when Vincent accidentally kills a vegan activist vandalizing their store. To get rid of the corpse, he butchers the body and Sophie accidentally sells the meat. Never has their product been more successful with their customers to the extent that they just might be tempted to kill again…

The film stars Fabrice Éboué, Marina Foïs, Jean-Francois Cayrey, Lisa Do Couto Texeira, Victor Meutelet, Stephane Soo Mongo, Virginie Hocq and Christophe Hondelatte.

Some Like it Rare is in select theaters on October 7 and on VOD beginning October 14.

‘Piggy’ Trailer Cuts Deep And Gets Gory

Piggy

Piggy already has a huge place in my horror-loving heart. This one will speak well to the outsider. There is a ton of great social commentary throughout about our true selves and society’s shaming, cliques, and bullies. It is already one of my fave of the year.

The synopsis for Piggy goes like this:

With the summer sun beating down on her rural Spanish town, Sara hides away in her parent’s butcher shop. A teenager whose excess weight makes her the target of incessant bullying, she flees a clique of capricious girls who torment her at the town pool, only to stumble upon them being brutally kidnapped by a stranger, who drives off with them in his van. When the police begin asking questions, Sara keeps quiet. Intrigued by the stranger — an interest that’s mutual — she’s torn between revealing the truth and protecting the man who saved her.

The film stars Laura Galán, Richard Holmes, Carmen Machi, Irene Ferreiro & Camielle Aguilar, with the special collaborations of Pilar Castro and Claudia Salas.

Piggy arrives October 7 exclusively in Drafthouse theaters and on VOD beginning October 14.

‘Halloween Ends’ Featurette Reveals the End of Jamie Lee Curtis’s Time as a Final Girl

Halloween

Halloween Ends is coming up in a little under a month and we can’t wait to see how David Gordon Green finishes out his trilogy of films. This will bring an end to Jamie Lee Curtis’s time as the final girl, Laurie Strode. It is a bit of a bitter pill to swallow, but I think we should count ourselves lucky that she came back to the franchise to begin with. Looking back to the first Halloween by Green, it wasn’t originally a certainty that Curtis would come back to begin with. So, here we are 3 movies later and it’s pretty dang awesome that we got to see her play the role that many times.

The latest featurette dives behind the scenes and reveals the final battle between Myers and Strode. Plus, we get a look at how Curtis is dealing with the end of an era.

The Halloween Ends synopsis goes like this:

Four years after her last encounter with masked killer Michael Myers, Laurie Strode is living with her granddaughter and trying to finish her memoir. Myers hasn’t been seen since, and Laurie finally decides to liberate herself from rage and fear and embrace life. However, when a young man stands accused of murdering a boy that he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that forces Laurie to confront the evil she can’t control.

Halloween Ends arrives in theaters beginning on October 14.
