Deadline is reporting that Keanu Reeves is in talk to star in Erik Larson’s book adaptation The Devil in the White City. The series is being headed up by Hulu and will be exec produced by Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCarpio.
The book follows two larger than life characters during The Chicago World’s Fair of 1893 – one being a groundbreaking architect, Daniel H. Burnham and the other being Henry H. Holmes a methodical doctor who built a hell to suit his serial killing needs. Holmes used his status in high society to quite literally get away with murder. Holmes would use Rx drugs along with his palace of carnal delights to live out his macabre murderous fantasies.
DiCarpio has owned the rights to Larson’s book since 2010. Originally, DiCarpio planned on the whole thing to be brought to the big screen with a much different production scale.
Now, The Devil in the White City will be made into a series with the first two episodes being directed by Todd Field.
Larson’s book is an intense dive into the world of murder and the American Dream gone asunder. The production is still in its early stages but we will be sure to let you know when we have more details.
