Haunted Hotel is reopening on October 9 with eight new episodes, and Netflix has a Season 2 trailer to prove it.
The first season arrived on September 19, 2025 and then did the thing adult animation almost never does anymore. It worked immediately. Netflix renewed it for a second season a week later, as Variety reported at the time.
What Is Actually In the Cut
The trailer is built the way the first season was, which is to say gag density over dread. A witch works a cauldron in the attic while three people sit tied to chairs behind her. Something enormous surfaces underneath a rowboat. A kid walks through a pantry with a fork sticking out of his head and appears untroubled by it. There are visual nods to Ghostbusters and The Ring in the footage, and the cut never slows down long enough to explain any of them.
Netflix’s own logline for the season gives up about as little plot as a logline can: “New ghosts. New employees. New undefined evils that we haven’t even discovered yet!”

The Front Desk Is Fully Staffed
Eliza Coupe returns as Katherine, the single mother running what the show bills as the world’s most haunted hotel, with Will Forte as her ghost brother Nathan. Skyler Gisondo and Natalie Palamides play her kids, Ben and Esther. Jimmi Simpson is Abaddon, the demon currently residing inside a little boy’s body, which is still the strangest sentence on any Netflix logline of the past five years.

Where the Show Comes From
Creator Matt Roller wrote for Rick and Morty and Community, and the executive producer list makes that lineage impossible to miss: Dan Harmon, Chris McKenna and Steve Levy. Erica Hayes, another Rick and Morty veteran, is supervising director, and the animation comes out of Titmouse, the studio behind Big Mouth and The Venture Bros.
That pedigree matters more than it usually would, because animated horror comedy tends to fail in one of two directions. It goes too cute to register as horror, or too mean to land as comedy. Season 1 cleared 79% on Rotten Tomatoes by declining both exits.

Eight Episodes, Not Ten
Season 1 ran ten episodes. Season 2 runs eight. Netflix has not said why, and nobody should pretend to know.
The date is the more interesting number anyway. October 9 drops the season into the Halloween corridor rather than the mid-September slot the first run had, which is what a streamer does when it expects people to still be working through the episodes three weeks later. Netflix has been stacking that corridor for a while now, most recently with its animated Diablo series.
Haunted Hotel Season 2 premieres October 9 on Netflix.
