Freddie’s clients are werewolves, vampires, zombies and the occasional alien, and the job is making their messes disappear before anyone files a police report. Amazon MGM Studios is turning that premise into a feature, adapting Garth Ennis and Mike Perkins’ horror-noir one-shot Freddie the Fix with Lawrence Lamont directing. Deadline broke the news Wednesday.

Kalen Egan and Travis Sentell are writing the screenplay. Kimberly Steward and Alex Foster produce for K Period Media, and Kenya Barris produces through Khalabo Ink Society. Ennis executive produces alongside Jeremy Allen, Adam Glass, Michael Bogner, David Stone and Lamont. No cast has been announced and no release date has been set, which keeps the film off the 2026 and 2027 release calendar for now.

The Comic Is a One-Shot From 2024

Freddie the Fix arrived in December 2024 as an oversized single volume, written by Ennis, drawn by Mike Perkins, with a variant cover from Marcelo Frusin. Ennis pitched it at launch as the horror-skewed intersection of The Boys and Ray Donovan: every monster in Los Angeles has a scandal, and Freddie is the man they call to bury it. “I’ve always been a big horror fan,” Ennis said when the book was announced. “With Freddie the Fix, I hope to shock, thrill, and entertain our fans (and maybe give them a laugh or two).”

Ennis’s horror résumé runs deeper than The Boys. Crossed is still one of the nastiest books Avatar Press ever printed, and Preacher ran on vampires, angels and a cowboy who shot his way out of hell. The joke in Freddie the Fix is that the monsters are the talent and the fixer is the only adult in the room.

Ninth Circle Was Built With Adaptations in Mind

Ninth Circle launched in September 2024 as a creator-owned horror imprint at Image Comics, co-founded by Ennis with Marguerite Bennett, Joe Pruett, Ram V and Adam Glass, and run on the business side by Michael Bogner and David Stone. Steward came in as lead investor, with her K Period Media attached from the announcement to produce select titles for screen. K Period Media was one of the companies behind Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria, so the horror end of this is not new to her. Freddie the Fix was the imprint’s first release, and it is now the first Ninth Circle book to reach a studio. Bogner, Stone and Steward all turn up on this film’s credits, which is the imprint working exactly the way it was drawn up.

Lawrence Lamont Is Coming From Comedy

Lamont directed One of Them Days, the 2025 Keke Palmer and SZA buddy comedy. That is not an obvious horror pedigree, and the hire is more interesting for it. Ennis writes gore and punchlines into the same panel, and the adaptations that have worked — The Boys above all — got the comedy right first and let the horror land on top of it. A straight horror director would probably flatten this one.

Amazon MGM has been stacking genre titles for a couple of years now, and Drew Hancock’s Seasons is already dated for 2027. Nobody has said yet how hard an Ennis adaptation is going to push, and on this book the rating is the whole question.
