‘Fear Street’s’ Director Has Cool Ideas to Expand Franchise

by Trey Hilburn III

Director, Leigh Janiak’s Fear Street trilogy is seriously a thing of horror-beauty. It managed to create a new slasher series for a whole new generation. It also managed to do it with a ton of heart, style, amazing set pieces and care. Janiak already has big ideas about where to go from this point to expand the universe for future Fear Street films.

One of the exciting things about Fear Street is the fact that the universe is big and allows for a lot of space. One of the things that I talked about before I was hired was that we have a potential here to create a horror Marvel, where you can have slasher killers from lots of different eras. You have the canon of our main mythology that’s built around the fact that the devil lives in Shadyside, so there’s also room for everything else… I think that my hope is that audiences like it enough that we can start building, we can think about what another trilogy would be, what stand alones would be, what TV would be. I don’t even think about it like TV or movies exactly anymore. That’s the great thing about Netflix and about what Fear Street is which is kind of a hybrid new thing. I’m excited about the possibility of what else can happen.” Janiak told Indiewire.

It would be pretty cool to explore some of those slashers, or all new ones. I mean who didn’t fall in love with the very rad, Ruby with her straight razor sway. I would love to see more of her… and explore a backstory on her specifically. Or seriously, anything Janiak would want to do is cool. She seriously managed to do something truly spectacular. Every time I stop to think about the tremendous accomplishment she pulled of with this trilogy it staggers me. Good on her! Can’t wait to see what she does next, even if it turns out to be something un-Fear Street related.
