The sleeper/cult teenage psycho-thriller Fear is getting a makeover.
The 90s were good to Mark Wahlberg so it is probably no surprise that after he auditioned for the role of David in the 1996 thriller Fear, the director said he wouldn’t make the film without him.

Although the film was a moderate box office success — it didn’t even break the top 50 movies of that year — it couldn’t rise to the popularity of its cinematic rival Scream that same year. Plus, Will Smith was killing it in the sci-fi action opus Independence Day.
But get ready for a re-do. A remake of Fear is headed to Peacock according to Deadline and this time it will be a series instead of a full-length film.
Showrunner Jessica Goldberg is pulling the series together. Her last project was The Path which ran for three seasons on Hulu.
This is a new adaptation. In the original movie David (Wahlberg) and Nicole (Reese Witherspoon) are teenage lovers. Nicole’s dad is suspicious of David , thinking the young man’s bad boy image is more than a shortcoming. He turns out to be right (poor German Shepherd).
In this new version, it’s not clear how old David and Nicole are, but the same type of psychological horror remains intact.
Deadline reports:
“When David and Nicole first meet in Seattle, it feels like an epic, once-in-a-lifetime romance – but soon it becomes clear that the seemingly perfect couple is anything but. Told from conflicting points of view, the series wrestles with personal demons, hidden agendas and reframes the “he said she said” convention into a twist-filled suspense story about toxic relationships.”
There is no word yet on when this series will launch, but we will keep you posted as we learn more.
