Four years after two women got stuck on top of a 2,000-foot radio tower and gave a generation of moviegoers a fresh reason to sweat, Lionsgate is sending us back up. The first trailer for Fall 2: Deadpoint is here, and the sequel has swapped rusted steel for raw rock.
This time the setting is Thailand’s Mount Kwan, where two climbers find themselves trapped thousands of feet above the ground. Per the official synopsis: “On a perilous climb across Thailand’s Mount Kwan, two climbers become trapped thousands of feet above the ground, where vertigo-inducing heights, sheer exposure, and impossible odds turn every moment into a fight for survival.”
If that sounds like the same nightmare in a new outfit — good. The original Fall worked because it understood that the scariest monster is gravity, and the trailer suggests Deadpoint has no interest in reinventing that wheel so much as bolting it to a cliff face.
The big change is behind the camera. The Spierig Brothers — Michael and Peter, the Australian filmmaking duo behind Daybreakers, Predestination, Jigsaw, and Winchester — are directing, taking over from original director Scott Mann. Mann isn’t gone, though: he co-wrote the screenplay with Jonathan Frank, the pair are credited with creating the characters, and Mann produces alongside James Harris, Mark Lane, David Haring, and Christian Mercuri.
The new cast is led by Harriet Slater (Outlander: Blood of My Blood), Arsema Thomas (Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story), and Tom Brittney (Grantchester).
The first Fall was one of 2022’s great low-budget success stories, grossing roughly $21 million worldwide against a $3 million budget — a return that made a sequel less a question of if than when. It also became something of a technical footnote in the industry: Mann’s AI dubbing startup was used to swap out the film’s profanity and secure a PG-13 rating without reshoots.
Deadpoint is likewise rated PG-13, this time for strong language, some violent content/bloody images, and drug material. Runtime is still TBD.
