Update: Evil Dead Rise made $40 million worldwide.
Evil Dead Rise opened big in theaters over the weekend. The Evil Dead franchise continues its dominance in cinema. The latest film once again gives us the reboot treatment and boy does it start off with a strong point. Over the course of the weekend, the film scored big with $23 million. That’s right, y’all in a very unsurprising move again, horror once again dominates at the box office alongside, big family film, The Super Mario Brothers Movie.
The synopsis for Evil Dead Rise goes like this:
A reunion between two estranged sisters gets cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.
Back at SXSW in Austin, we gave the film a very high score with a very loving review. And it looks like audiences are feeling the same as we do.
The Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell-produced reboot takes us back to a new set of roots that could equally be taking place in the same universe. During the early part of the film, we hear about how there are 3 Necronomicon books. That potentially could mean that the other two books are the ones that we have seen in the hands of Bruce Campbell and the one that we saw in the Evil Dead reboot (2016).
Evil Dead Rise is sure to pick up momentum based on word of mouth and audience score on Tomatoes. So, it is likely that next weekend we will see more of this film.
