Director of ‘Killer Klowns From Outer Space’ Talks About Reasons For Sequel Delay

Published

Killer Klowns

We have gone back and forth on news of Killer Klowns From Outer Space for a very long time. We finally have a reason for that though! It’s one of those good news, bad news situation so, lets start with the good news.

The directors of Killer Klowns From Outer Space, the Chiodo Brother’s have a trilogy in mind going forward. A trilogy or TV mini-series that would see the survivors of the original invasion alive and dealing with the fallout of what occurred. Obviously, it would have those characters revisit a second encounter with the Killer Klowns.

The bad news is that MGM controls the rights. They offered the Chiodo Brothers 2 million dollars to make a sequel, but since that is what the first one cost, and that was all the way back in the 80s, that amount of money wouldn’t be feasible. That makes total sense. You would really want a Killer Klowns sequel that is going to be practical and quality. Those two things cost money. I’m happy that the Chiodos Brothers don’t just sign on and take a paycheck. They are being careful with the property and I respect that a ton.

In a recent interview on the Slasher Radio horror podcast, Stephen Chiodo explained a portion of the plans they have for the future of Killer Klowns From Outer Space.

“Right out of the gate we tried to do a sequel…in fact we had a TV deal… USA TV we had a series. But the deal fell through like a lot of things do. And we have been trying to get the sequel going since 1988. And Hollywood is just a horrible machine. The film didn’t really get much box office… and when you want to get a sequel done, they look at the box office. They don’t regard cult films as something to invest in.” Chiodo said.

Ultimately, I am with Chiodo on this one. If there can’t be a proper investment in a sequel or sequels, or mini-series then, sadly there shouldn’t be a sequel at all. Studios really need to get hip to the idea that investing in cult films is going to make them money. It sounds counter intuitive, but its really not.

What do you guys think about the future of Killer Klowns From Outer Space? Do you think there should be a sequel if its not going to have a budget that can make it quality and practical? Let us know in the comments section.

‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3’ Is a Go with Enhanced Budget and New Characters

Winnie the Pooh 3

Wow, they’re churning things out fast! The upcoming sequel “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3” is officially moving forward, promising an expanded narrative with a larger budget and the introduction of beloved characters from A.A. Milne’s original tales. As confirmed by Variety, the third installment in the horror franchise will welcome Rabbit, the heffalumps, and the woozles into its dark and twisted narrative.

This sequel is a part of an ambitious cinematic universe that reimagines children’s stories as horror tales. Alongside “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” and its first sequel, the universe includes films such as “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare”, “Bambi: The Reckoning,” and “Pinocchio Unstrung”. These movies are set to converge in the crossover event “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble,” slated for a 2025 release.

Winnie the Pooh Poohniverse

The creation of these films was made possible when A.A. Milne’s 1926 children’s book “Winnie-the-Pooh” entered the public domain last year, allowing filmmakers to explore these cherished characters in unprecedented ways. Director Rhys Frake-Waterfield and producer Scott Jeffrey Chambers, of Jagged Edge Productions, have led the charge in this innovative endeavor.

The inclusion of Rabbit, heffalumps, and woozles in the upcoming sequel introduces a new layer to the franchise. In Milne’s original stories, heffalumps are imagined creatures resembling elephants, while woozles are known for their weasel-like characteristics and a penchant for stealing honey. Their roles in the narrative remain to be seen, but their addition promises to enrich the horror universe with deeper connections to the source material.
