David Cronenberg’s ‘Dead Ringers’ Reboot Gets First Seductively, Blood-Soaked Trailer
Rachel Weisz stars as the twins that Jeremey Irons brought to life previously in the David Cronenberg classic Dead Ringers. It is hard to try to outwork a Cronenberg remake. It is a tough thing to do. His work is so unique that it is hard to even begin to approach. However, I do like Weisz and I am intrigued by the story that this one takes.
We also have to keep in mind that writers Jack Geasland, Bari Wood penned the book that Cronenberg made his film from. This one looks to break away from Cronenberg a bit more in order to properly tell the story from the book a lot more closely.
Good, the twins in the book are a bit more comic book villains so I’m excited about Weisz taking that on and seeing how she does with it.
The synopsis for Dead Ringers goes like this:
A modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller starring Jeremy Irons, Dead Ringers stars Rachel Weisz playing the double-lead roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes—including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics—in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront.
Amazon Prime’s Dead Ringers arrive on April 21.
