No, this isn’t the Eli Roth slasher that came out in 2023; this is Jordon Downey’s own low-budget holiday horror movie, ThanksKilling, that’s almost 20 years old. You may know Downey from his contribution to 2024’s V/H/S/Beyond called Stork. Before there was the fall-favorite Art the Clown, there was Turkie; an equally sadistic fowl who was possessed by a vengeful Native American centuries earlier. He, like Art, is hellbent on ruining everyone’s fall festivities.
ThanksKilling is kitsch to the core and has that wonderful ’80s VHS feel, complete with rubbery practical effects and overacting. But it has its cult following. Enough so, a sequel was made in 2012 called ThanksKilling 3 via GoFundMe. If you’re wondering what happened to ThanksKilling 2, there isn’t one, which should give you some insight into the brand of humor Downey uses in his scripts.
The ThanksKilling social media pages were updated today, teasing something upcoming from the cult-classic franchise. What it is, we don’t know. It just says “stay tuned.” And we will.
