Pamela Voorhees picks up the machete in the full Crystal Lake trailer, a considerably less coy piece of marketing than the one that came before it. Peacock released it Sunday, and all eight episodes of the Friday the 13th prequel land Thursday, October 15.

July’s teaser kept Linda Cardellini in shadow and let the lake do the work. This one lays out the season: a mother who never got a body back, two strangers turning over her past, and a town that would rather blame the wildlife than look too closely at the woman who cooks at the camp. The cut has a machete, a strangulation, and one line from Pam that lands harder than either — “I don’t want to heal.”

A Paranoid ’70s Thriller With Rivers of Blood

Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane has been describing the series in those terms for the better part of a year. “In many ways, it’s a psychological thriller. It’s a paranoid ’70s thriller,” he told Entertainment Weekly in December. “It has all of the DNA of a slasher without quite being a slasher. There are rivers of blood in the show. There are very, I think, ingenious kill sequences and deaths and murders, but it’s all done in service of character and theme and place and time.”

His way into the material was the era rather than the franchise. “It came out of the mistrust-of-institutions era. It came out of the women’s lib era, the National Organization for Women era,” Kane said of the 1980 original, and that is the register the trailer plays in — small town, bad faith, everyone being polite about it. On his lead he was less measured: “She’s gonna shock and surprise a lot of people. She’s inconceivably brilliant in it.”

The Name Halfway Down the Credits

Victor Miller wrote the 1980 film and invented Pamela Voorhees, and he is credited as an executive producer on the series. He died on September 2 at 86, eleven days before this trailer went out. The character he built out of roughly fifteen minutes of screen time is about to carry eight hours of television, and he did not live to see it air.

Back to Blairstown

The production shot its downtown Crystal Lake scenes in Blairstown, New Jersey, the town Sean Cunningham used as Crystal Lake in 1980. Per JoBlo, which followed the shoot through the summer of 2025, it is the first Friday the 13th project to go back. Camp and lake material was filmed elsewhere in New Jersey, in West Milford and Ringwood, with principal photography running from June to October of last year.

Who Is Standing Around Her

Callum Vinson plays Jason. The cast around Cardellini includes William Catlett as Levon Brooks, Devin Kessler as Briana Brooks, Cameron Scoggins as Dorf, Gwendolyn Sundstrom as Grace, and Nick Cordileone as Ralph. Kane created and wrote the series for A24 and Peacock. Episodes are directed by Michael Lennox, Celine Held and Logan George, and Quyen Tran.

The sweater turned up yesterday. The machete is now a matter of public record. Crystal Lake premieres Thursday, October 15, on Peacock.
